Job Description

Overview:
The Transfer Station Manager is responsible for overseeing all operational activities in both our Norcross and Alpharetta Georgia locations. This role leads a team of tractor/trailer drivers, mechanics, heavy equipment operators, laborers and a dispatcher to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient waste handling and transportation. The Operations Manager drives operational excellence, executes business strategies, manages budgets, ensures regulatory compliance, and fosters a high-performance, safety-first culture to support the long-term growth and sustainability of Voyager Trucking. Preferred advanced mechanical knowledge, strong leadership skills that are "take charge" and proven management experience. We offer a strong incentive plan based on performance markers in the field. Most Saturdays are required. Operations & Site Management Manage day-to-day transfer station operations, including loading, load weights, and the transport of waste materials. Oversee and follow up on, outbound trailer coordination, and tons-per-load efficiency while ensuring compliance with federal and state weight regulations. Ensure smooth workflow, maximize productivity, and minimize downtime. Establish and monitor performance metrics and productivity goals. Leadership & Team Management Hire, train, coach, and evaluate employee performance Establish performance objectives and promote accountability across teams Foster a strong safety-first and high-performance culture Safety & Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all federal, state, and local regulations. Lead and enforce a "Safety Before Schedule" culture. Conduct safety meetings and training sessions on a regular basis. Oversee accident prevention initiatives, incident investigations, and root cause analysis. Maintain inspection readiness and ensure all permits and standards are met. Equipment Operations & Maintenance Tractors & Trailers Oversee the heavy-duty equipment, including: Volvo ECR355E excavators, Volvo L180H loaders, Volvo L20H loader, Hitachi ZW30-5B loader, Hitachi
ZX245LC-7
excavator, and Hitachi ZW220-6 loader Ensure all equipment is safely operated and maintained in optimal working condition. Oversee preventative maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs Monitor equipment utilization, downtime, and repair costs to maximize efficiency and lifespan Financial & Business Management Manage site budgets including labor, operating costs, maintenance, and expenses. Approve purchase orders and vendor pricing. Participate in P&L reviews and ensure financial targets are achieved. Implement cost-control measures and improve operational efficiency. Strategic Execution & Continuous Improvement Implement and execute operational strategies and tactical initiatives. Use data-driven decision-making to track performance and identify improvements. Drive process improvements and operational efficiencies. Lead change management initiatives to improve workflows and reduce costs. Reporting & Administrative Oversight Prepare and review daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports. Evaluate performance trends and implement corrective action plans. Ensure adherence to company policies and quality standards. Execute business plans to support growth, profitability, and long-term sustainability. Required Skills & Competencies Strong leadership, team building, and workforce development skills. Experience managing budgets, business plans, and operational performance. Demonstrated ability to use data-driven decision-making. Knowledge of OSHA safety programs and environmental compliance. Proven ability to drive change and implement process improvements. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational systems. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Education & Experience Associate's degree or higher is preferred 3 years of experience in solid waste, transfer station, or logistics operations Minimum 3+ years of supervisory or management experience Experience managing multi-site or complex operations preferred We are willing to offer a relocation package for the right candidate.
