http://governmentjobsmdotmd The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS) is currently recruiting for a Sign Operations Supervisor in Anne Arundel County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.
Nature of Work:
The primary purpose of the position is to assist the Sign Operations Manager within the Traffic Operations Division (TOD). This position is critical to supporting the signing needs of construction and maintenance offices statewide. The Sign Operations Supervisor oversees the day-to-day shop operations including organizing workflow, prioritizing, and overseeing all aspects of highway sign fabrication while completing sign manufacturing orders of their own. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining the daily production schedules for highway signs and markers, maintaining a statewide inventory of sign materials, and evaluating the quality of sign products. This position will also supervise state and contractual sign technicians. These duties will be performed at the sign operations facility and involve exposure to loud noises, fumes, chemicals, bending, and lifting. Protective clothing and equipment are required. This position assumes the technical and administrative duties of the Sign Operations Manager in their absence, including but not limited to, sign request review/approval, leave and payroll approval, resolving sign layout and fabrication concerns with design and sign requestors, etc. MDOT offers a generous and competitive benefits package. Qualifications Education:
Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
Four years of experience in sign fabrication, including one year in a team leader capacity overseeing the work of others in the area of sign fabrication.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of sign fabrication processes and techniques, including equipment and materials used in thefabrication of signs
  • Knowledge of computer-aided sign technology and equipment
  • Knowledge of the Maryland Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and Maryland Standard Sign Book
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations Licenses & Certifications Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland with less than four (4) points.
Candidate must obtain a forklift and telehandler certification within six (6) months.
