Director of Operations - DelMed Inc. • Ham Lake, MN 55304 The Director of Operations holds full ownership of DelMed Inc.'s transportation operations, serving as the senior operational leader responsible for the performance, compliance, and culture of the organization's driver teams, dispatch functions, and fleet. This role requires a seasoned transportation leader with hands-on industry experience, deep regulatory expertise, and a proven track record of leading high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment. The Director of Operations is a key member of the senior leadership team, partnering directly with the President and their peers to drive operational excellence, support strategic growth, and ensure DelMed consistently delivers safe, compliant, and customer-focused service across its national footprint.

Salary / Exempt Key Responsibilities Oversee daily transportation operations, ensuring timely and compliant delivery of services. Lead and manage drivers, OTR Logistics Coordinators, Route Logistics Coordinators, and Shop Employees. Direct and oversee the Route Dispatch Coordinator(s) in the development, adjustment, and communication of driver schedules, ensuring alignment with operational priorities, compliance requirements, and customer commitments. Lead and manage the Shop/Fleet Manager on fleet readiness standards, maintenance scheduling, and minimizing vehicle downtime — ensuring the fleet supports operational capacity and service delivery at all times. Monitor and enforce compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, ELD requirements, and paper log standards. Manage and optimize use of the Transportation Management System (TMS) and related operational tools. Facilitate effective communication across all levels of the organization, promoting positive outcomes and de-escalating conflict where necessary. Own and manage key operational metrics, including on-time delivery, driver utilization, fleet uptime, and compliance rates; deliver structured reporting to senior leadership on a regular cadence. Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of operations staff. Ensure all operations adhere to federal, state, and company safety and compliance standards. Maintain accurate documentation and records as required by regulatory and company policy. Leadership Responsibilities Serve as an active member of the senior leadership team, participating in weekly leadership meetings and contributing to company-level decision-making on operational strategy, staffing, and service delivery.
Own the operational scorecard:
manage and present leading and lagging performance indicators that give leadership real-time visibility into the health of the business. Identify and escalate operational issues that require leadership attention; bring forward proposed solutions, not just problems, and drive resolution with clear ownership and timelines. Manage and update as necessary the standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all operational functions, ensuring the business can scale and perform consistently independent of any single individual. Champion driver culture and retention by maintaining visible, consistent engagement with the driver team; work collaboratively with leadership to shape recognition, incentive, and development programs that attract and retain high-performing drivers. Act as a cross-functional bridge between operations, back office, and customer-facing functions; proactively surface operational insights that inform business development, client retention, and capacity planning decisions. Support the President in evaluating operational capacity, growth opportunities, and organizational changes; serve as a trusted operational voice in strategic planning conversations Compensation & Benefits Compensation is commensurate with experience. Job Requirements:
3+ years of experience working in an operational management role. 10+ years of experience working in the transportation industry. Expert knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, Electronic Logging Devices (ELD), and paper log compliance. Expert knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) (such as Prophesy, Mcleod, etc.) Strong experience with DOT compliance, FMCSA regulations, and driver qualification file management. Demonstrated ability to de-escalate heightened communication situations and promote constructive, positive outcomes. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and hold a diverse team accountable. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in transportation, logistics, or business preferred.

Ensures accuracy in scheduling, documentation, and compliance reporting. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a medical transportation or specialized freight environment. Prior experience managing or dispatching both OTR and local route drivers. Experience with fuel card management systems (e.g., Mudflap, EFS, Comdata). Experience as a licensed CDL Class A Driver. Working Conditions This position is primarily office-based with regular visits to yard/shop locations. Occasional extended hours may be required to support operational needs. Must be available by phone or electronic means for urgent after-hours operational situations. Ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer workstation for the majority of the workday.
