Job Description

Water Mitigation Crew Chief Job Description Position Summary The Water Mitigation Crew Chief is responsible for leading field crews on water damage restoration projects. This role ensures all mitigation work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards while maintaining high-quality results and excellent customer service. Key Responsibilities Field Operations Lead and execute water mitigation services including extraction, drying, and demolition Perform moisture inspections, mapping, and daily monitoring of drying progress Set up and manage drying equipment (air movers, dehumidifiers, air scrubbers) Ensure proper containment and protection of unaffected areas Crew Leadership Supervise and direct technicians on job sites Assign daily tasks and ensure work is completed correctly and on schedule Train and mentor new team members Maintain accountability for crew productivity and quality Project Execution Follow scope of work provided by Project Manager Adjust drying strategies as needed based on moisture readings Ensure projects meet timelines and company standards Maintain job site organization and cleanliness Documentation & Reporting Document all work performed (photos, notes, moisture logs) Track equipment usage and placement Communicate job progress to Project Manager daily Assist with job file accuracy for insurance and billing Customer Interaction Communicate professionally with homeowners and property managers Explain the mitigation process and answer basic questions Maintain a clean, respectful, and professional job site presence Safety & Compliance Follow OSHA safety standards and company policies Ensure proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment) Comply with Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification S500 standards Identify and report hazards on job sites Qualifications Required 1-3 years of experience in water mitigation, restoration, or construction Strong understanding of drying equipment and basic mitigation techniques Ability to lead a crew and work independently Valid driver's license with clean driving record Ability to respond to emergency/on-call situations Preferred IICRC Certification (WRT preferred, ASD a plus) Experience with moisture meters and thermal imaging Previous leadership or crew lead experience Skills & Competencies Leadership and team coordination Strong work ethic and reliability Attention to detail Problem-solving in field conditions Clear communication skills Physical Requirements Lift and carry 50-75 lbs regularly Work in wet, humid, and confined environments Stand, bend, and move for extended periods Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions Compensation & Benefits (Customize as Needed) Hourly pay Bonus opportunities based on performance Company vehicle Health benefits (if applicable) Paid time off Work Schedule Full-time On-call rotation for emergency services (nights/weekends) Why This Role Matters The Crew Chief is the backbone of field operations—ensuring water damage is mitigated quickly and correctly, preventing further damage and helping customers recover as fast as possible.
