This position exists to manage the district's fleet of 652+ units by ensuring proper: data collection; replacement analysis and planning; developing long range replacement plans; overseeing the district equipment budget; making acquisitions; overseeing rental, lease and purchasing processes; setting direction for heavy equipment repair shops; facilitating equipment sharing within the District and involving employees in these processes to ensure that data-driven decisions are communicated and accepted so that service is provided in a customer oriented manner.
  • The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of advanced supervisory experience (TOS 3) of heavy equipment operations that included hiring, training, and supervision of mechanics in a heavy equipment repair facility; OR Three years of supervisory experience (e.g., TOS 2) of heavy equipment operations that included hiring, training, and supervision of mechanics in a heavy equipment repair facility.
  • License:
  • Minimum of a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction is required at the time of hire.
  • Physical Requirements
  • General Office While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use wrists, hands, and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Technical
  • Field While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work outside in all season weather exposed to the weather elements (both hot and cold).
The employee will periodically work in high volume traffic zones in day and night time conditions and walk on even and uneven/sloping ground. They will periodically operate motor vehicles and heavy equipment on and off the roadway. The employee must continually rotate through various body positions (standing, twisting, bending, sitting, kneeling) while operating equipment and performing various other tasks including necessary hearing and operating skills
