Job Description

Financial Controller / Operations Manager Position Overview We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Financial Controller / Operations Manager to oversee internal accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, operational processes, and organizational efficiency for a growing multi-state company. This role will work closely with ownership and management to improve operational performance, strengthen internal controls, support long-term scalability, and help bring several accounting and reporting functions further in-house. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, proactive, capable of managing multiple priorities, and comfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving environment. This position requires someone who can manage the company's financial operations while also helping improve systems, workflows, accountability, and operational structure as the company continues to grow. Primary ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Management Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and financial processes Maintain and review general ledger accuracy Perform monthly bank reconciliations and credit card reconciliations Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management Prepare internal financial reports and operational analysis Assist ownership with strategic financial planning and decision-making Monitor financial performance and identify areas for operational improvement Support long-term financial organization and reporting consistency Compliance & Reporting Review and prepare Sales & Use Tax filings for multiple states File and remit state withholding deposits and payroll-related filings File and maintain state unemployment reporting requirements File W-2s, 1099s, Federal 940s, and annual payroll reporting requirements Assist with year-end audited financial statements and audit preparation Maintain compliance with applicable financial and reporting regulations Operations Management & Process Improvement Oversee and support accounting-related personnel and workflows, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing, and administrative support functions Assist with departmental accountability, workflow management, and operational coordination Help develop, organize, and improve purchasing procedures, purchase order systems, and approval workflows Review contracts, vendor agreements, and financial documentation for accuracy and compliance Improve accounting workflows, documentation, reporting procedures, and internal controls Assist with implementation and oversight of scalable financial and operational systems Coordinate with outside accountants, financial institutions, and operational partners as needed Identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements to support company growth Support ownership and management with operational planning and financial process management Help strengthen organizational continuity, accountability, and operational efficiency Qualifications Accounting degree preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered Prior accounting, controller, financial management, or operational management experience required Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and reconciliations Experience with payroll reporting, compliance, and multi-state filings preferred Experience overseeing accounting processes, workflows, or support personnel preferred Strong organizational and analytical skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Strong attention to detail and accuracy Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities Strong communication and problem-solving skills Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel required Preferred Qualities Process-oriented mindset Strong sense of ownership and accountability Leadership mentality with the ability to oversee multiple departments and improve operational workflows Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment Comfortable adapting to operational changes and company growth Interest in helping improve systems, workflows, efficiencies, and accountability Proactive and solution-oriented approach Ability to identify operational gaps and recommend improvements Position Details Full-time position Competitive salary based on experience Benefits available for full-time employees Multi-state operational environment Growth-oriented company with long-term opportunities Our Goal We are looking for someone who wants to become a long-term part of the team and help strengthen the company operationally and financially as we continue to grow.
