Job Description

About the company Sims Metal is the world's leading publicly listed metal recycler, with operations encompassing the buying, processing, and selling of ferrous and non-ferrous recycled metals. The metals recycling operations are geographically diverse, with operations on five continents. They comprise a network of processing facilities, many with deep-water port access, supported by an extensive network of feeder yards from which to source recyclable ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Major responsibilities Manages the activities regarding the operations of shredder equipment, and any troubleshooting to assure safe operations of the facility's shredder. This includes all aspects of daily production, maximize manpower performance and improve shredder maintenance to minimize downtime. Shredder Production, including daily coordination of shredder operations Operate the Shredder during production shifts Perform and document pre-shift start up inspections Repairs of breakdowns during a production shift Documentation of production totals Development and training of employees Lead training of safety standards personnel Ensure all safety protocols are consistently followed Collaborate with other supervisors to prioritize the needs of the facility The employee may be assigned to special projects or required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs Experience Up to 5 years' experience supervising employees in the similar scrap handling work or manufacturing operations required. Hands on experience with the operation and maintenance of shredders and material handling equipment (e.g. cranes, shears, bailers). Prior "shredder" operations experience is required! Up to 5 years' experience in shredder operations functions desired. Good hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, electrical systems, water pumps and air compressors. High school or technical school diploma required. Technical college degree desired or equivalent work experience. Education High school or technical school diploma required.
