About Avenue Dermatology Avenue Dermatology is a physician-led dermatology platform anchored by two of the Upper East Side's most established practices, Gendler Dermatology and Lewis Dermatology. Currently operating across two flagship Manhattan locations with a growing provider team, and a third location on the way, we are actively building the infrastructure, systems, and leadership capacity to support continued platform growth through acquisition and de novo expansion. We operate under an MSO/PC structure and are investing meaningfully in the operational foundation required to scale. This is a highly visible role - internally and externally - and requires someone who can serve as a true strategic partner to our physician leaders while driving operational rigor across the platform.
The Role:
The Director of Operations will serve as the operational backbone of Avenue Dermatology. This is a high-ownership position, responsible for building scalable infrastructure across all practice locations, developing and leading the practice management team, and ensuring a consistently high-quality experience for both patients and providers. You will report directly to the CEO and sit at the leadership table alongside physician partners and the CFO - contributing to platform strategy, growth execution, and long-term organizational design. This is not a role for someone looking to manage steady-state operations.

What Success Looks Like:
In your first 12 months, you will have, Built scalable operational infrastructure that holds across current and future locations Improved patient throughput and provider utilization across both practices Reduced AR aging and driven measurable improvement in collections performance Standardized workflows, reporting cadences, and SOPs across all sites Established yourself as a trusted operational leader with practice staff (clinical and non-clinical) Supported at least one acquisition integration or expansion initiative end-to-end
Responsibilities:
Multi-Site Practice Operations Maintain healthy, efficient operations across all practice locations, serving as the primary point of contact for daily operational issues Standardize protocols, workflows, and patient pathways across sites to ensure consistent quality of care and provider satisfaction Conduct regular site visits to ensure each location is performing to standard and aligned with platform goals Establish and own a daily safety forum across all practice locations, driving real-time identification of operational risk, resource redeployment, and structured escalation to senior leadership People Management & Workforce Development Supervise and develop Practice Managers across locations; foster a team-based, high-performing culture Champion a culture of pre-incident safety reporting across clinical and administrative staff, where concerns are raised early rather than suppressed Anticipate staffing needs and proactively address gaps; partner with CEO on hiring for clinical and non-clinical roles Liaise with PEO (Vensure) on HR compliance, onboarding, benefits, and payroll processes Systems & Workflow Optimization Own the practice management and EHR environment (Nextech/EZDerm); drive adoption, troubleshoot issues, and identify improvement opportunities Work with CFO to maintain a KPI dashboard across visits, provider productivity, AR, payor mix, and patient satisfaction Identify workflow inefficiencies and design scalable solutions; document and maintain standardized operating procedures Manage vendor relationships across IT, consumables, medical supplies, equipment, and facilities Revenue Cycle & Financial Performance Own revenue cycle performance across both insurance (fee-for-service) and self-pay/cash-pay service lines Manage discretionary operational budgets; prepare, reconcile, and monitor site-specific budgets in collaboration with the CFO and practice leadership Partner with billing team and external vendors to optimize collections, reduce AR aging, and improve clean claim rates Ensure fiscal compliance with MSO policy and lender reporting requirements Cross-Functional Collaboration & Platform Strategy Serve as a senior voice in leadership discussions on operational priorities, resource allocation, and growth sequencing Translate operational issues into clear, actionable recommendations for the leadership team Lead due diligence and operational integration for new practice acquisitions Partner with CEO on growth initiatives including space expansion, new service line launches, and physician recruitment

Qualifications:
Required 5-7+ years of progressive healthcare operations experience, with at least 3 years in management roles Multisite experience - you have managed operations across more than one location simultaneously Experience in both fee-for-service (insurance) and self-pay/cash-pay revenue environments Demonstrated financial acumen - comfortable with P&Ls, revenue cycle metrics, and budget management Strong working knowledge of practice management systems (Nextech, EZDerm, or comparable) Proficiency with Microsoft Office & Excel Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Preferred Specialty outpatient experience strongly preferred Experience in an early-stage, private equity-backed, or MSO-structured environment Master's degree (MHA, MBA, or related field) Familiarity with HIPAA, Joint Commission or analogous standards, and NY-specific healthcare compliance requirements
