Job Description

Posting Details This posting will be used for ongoing recruitment and may close at any time. Applicant lists may be screened more than once. This is the HR Director for the New Mexico Department of Transportation. As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrate leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government. Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date. Why does the job exist? This position functions at a high level, collaborating with and offering consultation to the Office of the Secretary, Division Directors, District Engineers, District Business Managers, and District HR Managers. The position has extensive responsibility based on agency mission. The incumbent must manage the development of HR goals, policy, procedures, and strategic initiatives to support the mission of the agency. The position is responsible for providing multiple and diverse employee support functions for a large state agency of 2600 FTE. How does it get done? The HR Director must evaluate situations, measure the liability/benefit to the agency, and make sound HR decisions based on what is in the best interests of the agency. The incumbent must also evaluate the needs of the agency with respect to its mission and allocate resources accordingly. The HR Director oversees NMDOT's HR Operations, Employee and Labor Relations, Payroll, and Risk Management. Who are the customers? New Mexico Department of Transportation employees as well as the traveling public. Ideal Candidate New Mexico Department of Transportation employees as well as the traveling public. Minimum Qualification Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and ten (10) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling fourteen (14) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
