Job Description

We are hiring a full-time, experienced FedEx BC (Business Contact) Operations Manager in Cheektowaga, NY! You will be responsible for and play a direct role in the success of the day-to-day operations. This is a key leadership role within our organization, responsible for driving performance, safety, and team culture. You'll be expected to have a solid daily presence at the terminal, building and maintaining strong, positive working relationships with your drivers and other FedEx employees. You are adaptable with a strong work ethic and willingness to do whatever to takes to get the job done. Your motivational leadership style, positive attitude, communication skills, and ability to solve problems and think critically will help you build and manage a team of delivery drivers. As a detail-oriented individual, you'll excel at handling administrative tasks such as fleet maintenance, route planning, compliance, and safety.

  • This role will require consistency, flexibility, and availability. Operational needs may require early mornings, extended days, and/or weekend involvement. In return, you will have flexibility with your schedule when circumstances allow. Responsibilities
  • Create and submit an effective DRO/FRO plan each night (adjusting for daily volume, staffing, and service needs)
  • Arrive at the terminal no later than 7:00 am each day
  • Oversee daily dispatch, ensure all P&D routes are staffed, trucks are operational, and routes are efficient
  • Work with the terminal on disputes & hand sheets
  • Ensure driver compliance regarding paperwork, HoS, Pre & Post trip inspections
  • Manage driver schedules, route assignments, daily operation coverage
  • Monitor driver performance, attendance, professionalism, and service execution
  • Ensure drivers complete all pick-ups, attempt all deliveries, and code all packages appropriately each day
  • Coordinate rescues, route adjustments, breakdown response, and on-road support
  • Serve as a contingency resource and deliver packages in the event of driver call-offs, driver shortages, heavy volume, or any other unforeseen circumstances
  • Coordinate and schedule maintenance and repairs on equipment and trucks and assist with Monthly Maintenance Reports
  • Monitor VEDR events and investigate accidents, service failures, and customer complaints with full follow-through
  • Create a culture of safety, ensuring each driver is up to date on monthly safety training as well as holding daily and weekly safety meetings
  • Train & on-board new drivers, including ride-alongs and ongoing coaching
  • Oversee hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions as needed
  • Communicate daily with AO
  • Strong communication and partnership with FedEx terminal management
Qualifications:
  • Previous FedEx experience with at least one year of BC experience and peak experience
  • Management or supervisory experience in logistics, transportation, or delivery operations environment
  • Expertise in DRO/FRO route planning
  • Strong knowledge of driver management, dispatch operations, route planning, pickups, daily service, and safety compliance
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Calm, professional decision-making under pressure
  • Organized, dependable, reliable, detail-oriented, and safety-focused
  • Must be a person of integrity (follow a set of values, be honest, help others, lead by example and take responsibility)
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • Must be willing to submit to a background check and MVR check
  • Must be able to pass a federal drug test and DOT physical (both paid for by FedEx)
  • Physically willing and able to drive a P-1000 sized vehicle (Large Step Van) and safely deliver packages to both residential and commercial recipients (lifting up to 150lbs. with the assistance of a dolly)
  • Comfortable working early mornings, variable hours, weekends, and peak-season schedules as needed
  • Must live within 30 minutes of the branch terminal (or be willing to relocate prior to start) and have reliable transportation
  • Maintenance experience preferred
