Job Description
Director of Operations Wm. Farmer and Sons, a family-owned boutique hotel, restaurant, and bar in historic Hudson, NY, is seeking a hands-on Director of Operations to help lead the day-to-day operations of the property. This is an on-site role for a true hospitality operator. The Director of Operations will oversee guest house operations, restaurant operations, maintenance, onsite activations, and the daily systems that keep the property running smoothly. We are looking for someone organized, steady, service-minded, and comfortable moving between leadership, problem-solving, and hands-on support. Located in the heart of Hudson, Wm. Farmer and Sons offers a thoughtful hospitality experience rooted in warm service, historic character, seasonal food and beverage, and a strong sense of place.
Responsibilities include:
Overseeing daily operations across the guest house, restaurant, bar, maintenance, and onsite activations Working closely with ownership to execute operational priorities, improve systems, and support the guest experience Leading and supporting key team members across guest services, restaurant, housekeeping, maintenance, and events Creating clear communication between departments so the property operates as one cohesive hospitality experience Maintaining service standards across guest-facing and back-of-house areas Identifying operational gaps and creating practical, timely solutions Supporting hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and team accountability in partnership with department leaders Overseeing property readiness, cleanliness, maintenance priorities, vendor needs, and daily service flow Supporting onsite activations, private events, room blocks, and high-volume weekends Being present and hands-on during key service periods, arrivals, events, and property needs The right candidate will have: Strong hospitality operations experience in restaurants, hotels, events, or a related guest-facing business Experience as a Restaurant General Manager, Assistant General Manager, hotel manager, operations manager, or similar leadership role Interest in growing into a broader role across rooms, food and beverage, property, and guest experience A strong understanding of service, team leadership, and daily operational flow Clear communication, sound judgment, and strong follow-through A calm, hands-on leadership style with both guests and staff High standards for service, cleanliness, consistency, and accountability Experience with boutique hotels, restaurants, historic properties, or independent hospitality businesses preferred Familiarity with Cloudbeds, Resy, Toast, or similar hospitality platforms a plus Physical requirements: This is an active, on-site leadership role. Work is performed across multiple historic buildings, and there are no elevators on the property. Candidates must be comfortable moving throughout the property, using stairs regularly, and being present in both guest-facing and back-of-house spaces.
Schedule:
This is a full-time salaried position. The schedule will vary based on business needs, including weekends, evenings, holidays, events, and high-volume periods. On-call availability may be needed for urgent operational or property matters.
