As we continue to scale across DTC, retail, marketplace, and international channels, we are focused on building strong operational foundations that support our employees and business growth. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented People Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day administration of our people operations function. This role will be responsible for ensuring payroll, onboarding, benefits, compliance, employee documentation, and people processes are executed accurately, efficiently, and consistently. Position Summary The People Operations Manager will serve as the primary owner of employee administration and people operations. This individual will ensure the company remains compliant with employment laws, maintains accurate employee records, delivers a seamless onboarding experience, administers payroll and benefits, and provides structure to all people-related processes. The ideal candidate is process-driven, highly organized, proactive, and capable of building scalable systems within a fast-paced, growing organization. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Payroll administration and payroll processing Benefits administration New hire onboarding and employee orientation Employee offboarding and separation administration Recruiting and candidate management Managing external recruiters and staffing partners Preparing offer letters and employment documentation Maintaining employee files and personnel records Employment law compliance and HR administration Employee handbook, policy, and SOP maintenance PTO, leave, and attendance administration Performance review administration and documentation Employee engagement Background checks and pre-employment screening Employment verification requests Training and development coordination Maintaining organizational charts and employee directories HRIS and employee data management Employee status changes, promotions, and compensation updates Supporting audits, reporting, and compliance requirements Process improvement and people operations optimization Additional Responsibilities Manage unemployment claims, documentation, and agency correspondence Coordinate and prepare documentation required for unemployment hearings and appeals Attend unemployment hearings and represent the company as needed Maintain records related to employee separations, disciplinary actions, and employment decisions Coordinate responses to government agency inquiries and employment verification requests Assist with employment-related investigations and documentation as needed Ensure all employee-related documentation is maintained in accordance with record retention requirements Partner with leadership to ensure employee actions, documentation, and terminations are properly documented and compliant Qualifications 5+ years of experience in Human Resources, People Operations, Payroll Administration, or a related field Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, with New York State experience preferred Demonstrated experience processing payroll independently Experience administering benefits, onboarding, employee records, and compliance programs Experience managing employee documentation and personnel files Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally Proficiency with HRIS, payroll systems, and applicant tracking systems Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with leadership What Success Looks Like Payroll is processed accurately and on time every pay cycle Employee records remain complete, organized, and audit-ready New hires are onboarded efficiently and consistently Compliance requirements are proactively managed and maintained Policies, handbooks, and SOPs remain current and properly administered PTO, benefits, and employee documentation are maintained accurately Recruiting and onboarding processes operate smoothly and efficiently Leadership has visibility into people operations without being involved in day-to-day administration Benefits Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance Paid Time Off Paid Holidays Employee Product Discounts Professional Development Opportunities Collaborative and Growth-Oriented Work Environment Equal Opportunity Employer Bask & Lather Co. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
