Job Description

The EMS Operations Manager ensures that services are monitored and improved continuously with urgency and accuracy to allow patient care providers to deliver excellent emergency medical care and preventative services in a highly reliable, efficient, and professional manner. Plays a key role in understanding, evaluating, and implementing strategic objectives, organizational key performance indicators, and efficient resource allocation for a complex, innovative, and nationally recognized emergency medical services dispatch system. Leadership skills are essential in ensuring the operations supervisory team and field operations staff are aligned with the company goals, values, and mission.
Essential Functions:
  • Support, guide, coach, and counsel EMTs and Paramedics
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the work of subordinates
  • Manage major components of the EMS organization
  • Oversee and manage operational scheduling for assigned divisions
  • Serves division or unit heads, or acts as staff specialist responsible for administrative and clinical functions
  • Optimize staffing levels and scheduling efficiency, working closely with HR for hiring needs
  • Collaborate with HR on disciplinary issues and provide interview assistance as needed
  • Address service-related concerns, participate in investigations, and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality
  • Assure field personnel have adequate resources throughout operations
  • Respond to major incidents involving mass casualties and multi-agency operations; operate at those incidents as part of a multi-agency unified command structure
  • Perform highly specialized tasks such as developing and maintaining education programs, deployment plans, system status management
  • Promote safety and security measures, making recommendations for improvements and taking immediate action when necessary; manage employee accident/incident reporting
  • Maintain effective communication with various departments, keeping them informed and up to date on relevant information
  • Maintain an active and good working relationship with area emergency response departments, fire, law enforcement, and other ancillary services.
  • Handle protected health information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Participate actively in companywide events and meetings, demonstrating support for the mission, values, and quality standards
  • Ensure the EMS system is compliant with local, state, and federal codes
  • Ensure daily operations have all the resources needed to run smoothly; function partially from an office but still actively participate in field operations as needed and at large scale events
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Attends and represents during management meetings
  • Maintains and keeps current training requirements and certifications of EMS personnel
  • Monitors scheduling of field operations divisions
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Business management and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources Monitor/assess performance of self, operations, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action Demonstrate excellence in critical thinking, communication, and conflict resolution Supervision skills with the ability to provide guidance and professional support to staff, offer regular feedback, hold staff accountable, and serve as a mentor Education and Experience
  • Extensive experience in the field of EMS or public safety, State of Ohio Certified Paramedic required
  • EMS Systems management, at least 2 years' experience
  • One year administration experience in a public or private organization
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Standing, walking, sitting, lifting/carrying up to 150lbs unassisted, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching
  • Memorization/concentration, learning/knowledge retention, preparing/analyzing data, use of interfaced communication devices (phones, computers, radios, etc), emotional and behavioral self-regulation, interacting with others, high stress situations
  • Able to manage dangerous situations, emergency situations, incarcerated individuals, animals, comprehension, organization, and decision-making. Working Environment
  • Extreme cold/heat, humidity, wet, noise, hazards, temperature changes, atmospheric changes, vibration, extreme darkness/brightness, radiation, chemical/hazardous waste, gases/gas leaks, electrical hazards, acidic or harsh substances, infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, fumes/airborne particles, allergens, confined spaces, high or precarious places, ladders/step stools, moving mechanical parts • Computer use, monitors • Operating light and heavy equipment
