Role Objectives:
The Port Manager has complete oversight of the port location, including operations, financials, vendor relationships, customer service, and employment matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage staff including hiring, firing, performance, training/development and remuneration Work with the leadership team to establish and meet sales strategies and objectives Manage and monitor functions relative to cargo operations and vessel activity to ensure sales strategies and objectives are met and delays are minimized Monitor communication of port information to customers and principals and oversee customer updates and inquiry responses Manage annual operating budget, including monthly P&L and reporting on financial and operations variances Oversee Quality System and System Improvement Form development and compliance. Lessons Learned. Regularly visit local terminals, vendors and attend maritime meetings and call on current and potential customers; communicate and follow up on sales leads Maintain engagement with principals and assist in collection of outstanding receivables Other duties as assigned
Skill/Knowledge Requirements:
A service-oriented mindset Process driven Good planning and organizational skills Good attention to detail Able to use initiative and solve problems Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Simple math and accounting skills required Proficient in using computers and computer systems
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED required Bachelor's degree in Business or other related field strongly preferred Equivalent years of work experience may be substituted for the degree At least 5 years of prior experience in maritime shipping required At least 2 years of prior management experience required
Physical Requirements:
Required to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps; reach; stand; walk; talk; and hear Must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such as analyzing figures, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection, and using measurement devices Worker is subject to environmental conditions both inside and outside, with no effective protection from weather, with sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard, and to physical hazards, such as moving parts, vehicles, electricity, heights, and large bodies of deep water
