Job Description
Director of Power Generation OperationsPosition Overview The Director of Power Generation Operations will lead and optimize all aspects of plant operations for a portfolio of power generation assets. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient generation performance, driving continuous improvement, overseeing turbine and balance-of-plant systems, and aligning operational activities with regulatory, environmental, and business objectives. The Director will provide strategic leadership, manage cross-functional teams, and implement best practices to maximize availability, reduce costs, and support long-term growth.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide strategic and operational leadership for power generation facilities, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient plant performance.
Oversee daily operations and maintenance of turbine units, balance-of-plant systems, and auxiliary equipment to achieve availability and reliability targets.
Develop and implement operational strategies, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize output and reduce operating costs.
Lead, mentor, and develop multi-disciplinary operations and maintenance teams; establish clear roles, expectations, and training programs.
Coordinate planned outages, major overhauls, and turbine inspections with maintenance, engineering, and external contractors to minimize downtime.
Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and company policies; promote a strong safety culture across all sites.
Manage budgets, operational forecasts, and performance reporting; identify opportunities for capital and operational efficiencies.
Collaborate with engineering, asset management, and commercial teams to support asset life extension, upgrades, and performance optimization.
Oversee incident response, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Drive adoption of digital tools and industry best practices to improve monitoring, diagnostics, and decision-making.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Power Engineering, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in power generation operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or director-level role.
Demonstrated expertise in turbine technology and operation (gas turbines, aeroderivative experience a plus).Strong operational management skills with proven experience optimizing plant performance and availability.
Deep knowledge of power generation systems including natural gas-fired plants, hydraulic systems, and electric systems.
Proven track record in safety leadership, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship.
Experience managing outage planning, major maintenance, and vendor/contractor relationships.
Excellent financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasts, and cost-control initiatives.
Outstanding leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with ability to influence at all levels.
Nice to have: active learner mindset; experience with Paycom, KPA, and MS Office suite; familiarity with aeroderivative turbines, hydraulic fracturing/Frac operations, electric and natural gas industry operations.
