Job Description

Title Electric Distribution Operator 1
Location:
Richmond VA Pay 22 - 27;77 12 month contract The Planet Group is seeking an Electrical Distribution Operator to be responsible for coordinating service restoration and electrical distribution switching activities while utilizing extensive knowledge of electric distribution systems, operating procedures, and switching practices. The role monitors system conditions, responds to outages, supports emergency restoration efforts, and ensures accurate reporting to keep management informed of outages, critical customer interruptions, emergency events, and extended service disruptions. Successful candidates are expected to complete a formal Switching Training Program and obtain switching certification within approximately 12-16 months. This is a shift-based position supporting 24/7 operations. Key Responsibilities Monitor and manage electrical distribution system operations. Coordinate service restoration and switching activities during outages and emergencies. Maintain situational awareness of system conditions and customer impacts. Communicate outage status, restoration efforts, and critical system events to management and stakeholders. Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and system records. Support emergency response efforts, storm restoration activities, and after-hours operations. Prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Complete required training and certification programs related to distribution switching operations. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 1 year of experience in dispatching, emergency services, operations coordination, complex database management, customer service, or a related field. Understanding of electrical distribution systems and utility operations. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency with computer systems and business applications. Ability to work independently while making sound operational decisions. Strong multitasking, prioritization, and leadership capabilities. Work Environment 24/7 shift-based operations environment. Requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and storm restoration assignments. Fast-paced operational setting requiring quick decision-making and effective communication during system emergencies. Ideal Background Candidates with experience in utility operations, electrical distribution systems, system dispatching, emergency response coordination, transmission/distribution control centers, military operations, public safety communications, or technical operations centers will be highly successful in this role.
