The Manager of Field Services will lead and oversee a team responsible for managing and executing field service projects. This role involves planning, organizing, and coordinating field operations to ensure projects are completed efficiently, on time, and meet customer specifications. The Manager of Field Services must possess strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Respons ibilitiesField Operations L eadershipLead and manage cross-functional field service teams responsible for the installation, assembly, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of power and distribution tra n sformers.
Oversee execution across utility, industrial, and substation environments, ensuring projects are d elivered safely, on time, and to spec i fication.
Mentor and develop field personnel, driving a cu lture of safety, accountability, and technical e x cellence.
Project Planning & ExecutionPlan and execute field service projects, i ncluding outage coordination, site readiness, scheduling, and resource a l location.
Define scope of work and delegate responsibilities across internal teams, technicians, and subcon tractors.
Ensure alignment and execution throughout the full project lifecycle, from mobilization through closeout.
Technical Oversight & Fiel d SupportOversee critical field activities, i ncluding oil processing (vacuum fill, degassing), dry-out procedures, assembly, testing, and energizatio n support.
Support and lead field testing and di agnostics (TTR, insulation resistance, power factor, DGA), and coordinate troubleshooting and corrective actions.
Partner with engineering to resolve complex technical issues encountered in t he field.
Financial & Commercial M anagementDevelop detailed cost estimates, budgets, and job forecasts for field service projects.
Monitor actual vs. planned costs and drive corrective actions t o ensure profitability and cos t control.
Support business development by identifying service opportunities and contributing to proposals and customer s olutions.
Customer & Stakeholder M anagementServe as the primary point of contact for customers during project execution, managing communication, expectations, and issue r e solution.
Act as liaison between customers, engineering, manufacturing, and sa les teams to ensure alignment on technical requirements and deli verables.
Risk, Safety & C ompli anceLead risk assessments and safety planning, ensuring adherence to OSHA, utility, and company safety s tandards.
Ensure all field service activities com ply with
IEEE, ANSI, IEC
standards, contractual requirements, and internal quality expe ctations.
Identify risks proactively and implement mitigation strategies to protect project execution and company i nterests.
Continuous Im provementCapture and i mplement lesson s learned from field projects to improve processes and e xecution.
Drive standardization of field practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety across all service op erations.
Additional Respons ibilitiesPerform other related duties as assigned. Education and ExperienceBachelor's or Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent field experience in transformer services).5-10+ years of exp erience in field service, commissioning, installation, or maintenance of power and/or distribution t r ansformers.
Hands-on exper ience with:
Transformer installation, assembly, and co mmissioning (including oil filling, vacuum processing, and dry-out procedures)Field testing and diagnostics (TTR, insulation resistance, power factor/dissipation factor, SFRA, DGA interpretation preferred)Outage planning an d execution in utility, industrial, or substation e nvironmentsTroubleshooting and repair of transformer-related issues i n the fieldStrong unders tanding of:
Transformer construction an d operation (core/coil, tap changers, bushings, cooli ng systems)Safety standards and procedures, including OSHA and utility site r equirementsIndustry standar ds such as
IEEE, AN
SI, and IEC related to installation, testing, and maintenanceProven experience managing or leading field teams, subcontractors, or third-party service providers across multiple job sites.
Experience coordin ating with utilities, EPCs, and industria l customers, including managing schedules, site constraints, and customer ex pectations.
Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, cost, an d timelines, including budgeting, cost tracking, and field reporting.
Familiarity with service documentation, reporting tools, and ERP/project tracki ng systems.
PMP, PgMP, CAPM, or similar project management certifications are a plus, but practical field leadership experience is strongly preferred.
