Job Description

Olympia CoffeeRetail Director, Puget Sound The Retail Director is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of Olympia Coffee s retail operations. This role oversees multiple cafe locations and ensures alignment with company goals, financial targets, and our mission to improve the quality of life for farmers, staff, and customers.

Reporting directly to the executive team, the Retail Director serves as a key leader within the organization driving operational excellence, developing high-performing teams, and building scalable systems that support sustainable growth. This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring a balance of big-picture thinking and day-to-day operational leadership.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team DevelopmentLead, mentor, and develop a team of cafe team leaders, fostering strong leadership skills and accountability at every levelCreate a culture of ownership, growth, and continuous improvement across all retail teamsBuild clear pathways for career progression and actively develop internal talent for future leadership rolesProvide consistent coaching, performance feedback, and support to direct reports, ensuring alignment with company expectations and valuesModel strong, values-based leadership that promotes respect, inclusion, and high performanceStrategic Planning & ExecutionDevelop and execute retail strategies that drive revenue growth, operational efficiency, and brand consistencyPartner with executive leadership to set annual goals, budgets, and key performance indicators for retail operationsIdentify trends, opportunities, and risks within the business and proactively adjust strategies to meet evolving needsCollaborate cross-functionally with teams across the company to align initiatives and maximize impactLead new cafe openings, expansions, and operational improvements with a focus on scalability and sustainabilityOperational ExcellenceOversee all aspects of cafe operations, ensuring systems, processes, and standards are consistent, efficient, and aligned with company goalsBuild, refine, and maintain operational systems that support quality, consistency, and an exceptional customer experienceEnsure all cafes deliver every guest, every time service through clear expectations, training, and accountabilityMaintain strong in-store execution of merchandising, product presentation, and brand standardsStep into cafe team leader responsibilities when needed to support business continuityChampion a positive, inclusive workplace culture where employees feel supported and empoweredUphold and elevate Olympia Coffee s brand through exceptional cafe environments and customer interactionsInspire teams to deepen coffee knowledge and product expertise, reinforcing Olympia Coffee s commitment to qualityLead with enthusiasm and adaptability, especially during periods of change or competing prioritiesFinancial Performance & AccountabilityOwn and drive sales performance and P&L outcomes across all retail locationsAnalyze financial reports and key metrics to identify opportunities for growth and cost optimizationPartner with Accounting and HR to monitor payroll, labor efficiency, and overall expense managementEnsure managers are equipped to understand and act on financial data to improve store-level performanceStaffing & Workforce PlanningPartner with HR to recruit, hire, and retain high-quality team members across all cafesEnsure staffing levels and scheduling align with business demands, seasonality, and traffic patternsSupport managers in building strong, flexible teams with a focus on customer service excellenceOversee onboarding and training systems in cafes to ensure consistency and effectivenessCompliance & Risk ManagementPartner with HR to ensure compliance with all labor laws, company policies, and workplace standardsSupport and guide managers through employee relations, performance management, and disciplinary processesMaintain a safe, respectful, and legally compliant work environment across all locationsIdeal Candidate Qualifications5+ years of progressive retail leadership experience, including multi-unit managementProven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams across multiple locationsStrong financial acumen with experience managing P&L, budgeting, and sales performanceDemonstrated success in building systems and processes that improve operational efficiencyStrategic thinker with the ability to execute and drive results in a fast-paced environmentExcellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skillsExperience in specialty coffee or hospitality strongly preferredFamiliarity with Paycom is a plusBenefitsCompetitive Pay3 Weeks Paid Time OffMedical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance, 80% paid employer paid premiums Paid Sick DaysPaid Volunteer Hours401K with employer match Coffee products and services benefits
