Job Description

Job Summary The Machining Operations Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the Machine Shop and is the driver of the strategic process within the Machine Shop. They will provide direction and support to production leadership, focusing on performance improvement, capacity planning, and future capability development. They will collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure continuous process improvement. This role manages the Machine Shop Production Supervisor and CNC Programming, while being a key liaison for those functions with Engineering, ensuring components are manufacturable, issues are resolved efficiently, and improvements are implemented. Key Responsibilities Define performance goals and drive OTD, quality, and cost performance from the Machine Shop Operation. Improve utilization on all shifts to optimize use of the machining center capacity. Optimize capacity within the shop by using alternative routing, changes to hours worked and make vs. buy decisions. Lead projects in collaboration with engineering to improve manufacturability, cycle time, and process consistency. Ensure production runs smoothly, efficiently, and in line with customer expectations. Ensure documentation, processes, and changes comply with quality standards. Analyze and optimize processes to reduce waste, lower costs, and improve productivity. Support daily manufacturing operations by troubleshooting production issues. Drive continuous improvement and find opportunities in setups, run times, and routings. Lead the CNC programming function, owning the development, prioritization, and advancement of technical capabilities to support current needs and future initiatives. Build accountability, communication, and collaboration across all shifts and functions. Drive technology strategy surrounding information systems, AI, and automation. Partner with Human Resources to develop appropriate recruitment, training, development, and retention plans for all machinists. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, operations management, or supply chain management. Proven job experience in fields of Operations or Engineering including 2+ years of supervisory experience. 5 -7 years of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably in a machine shop or machining operations for an OEM manufacturer Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Analytical thinker with the ability to develop instructions, using graphics and text. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Background in Lean/Six Sigma, Automation, Robotics, or other current manufacturing skill sets preferred. Machining, Operations or engineering professional certifications such as (CPIM, CPSM, PMP) preferred.
