GMP facility Job Description The Packer plays a key role in keeping production lines running efficiently and ensuring all food products are packaged accurately according to established specifications, safety standards, and quality guidelines. This position involves rotating through multiple packaging tasks, operating packaging equipment, performing visual inspections, and accurately recording production data while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area. Responsibilities Perform all tasks in strict accordance with safety and food safety standards, consistently promoting a culture of safety. Participate in safety training programs and support the development and implementation of safety initiatives. Ensure full compliance with regulatory and third-party requirements, including SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA, Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, and Gluten Free standards. Maintain thorough knowledge of the products being packed, including product specifications and the correct weight of each tortilla produced. Retrieve and review product specifications from the company ERP system before and during production runs. Identify and understand the specifications of the boxes and bags used for packing each product. Program date coding machines for bags and boxes according to product type and rotation requirements. Prepare the workstation at the start of the shift with required bags, boxes, and materials, and maintain a clean and organized work area in line with good housekeeping policies. Follow the production schedule and specifications to meet productivity goals and packaging targets. Participate in line rotation throughout the day or week, which may include moving to other lines, assisting co-workers, cleaning lines during machine downtime, and covering breaks or lunches. Maintain continuous communication with line leaders and machine operators about any product deficiencies, such as undercooked or overcooked tortillas, incorrect weights, or size deviations. Operate packaging equipment, including Auto Baggers, Ilapak machines, and related auto bagging systems. Complete changeovers in the packaging area, including adjustments to the vision system, counter stacker, auto bagger, bag printer, and scales. Enter production information into the TGI Machine Log and complete product pathways in the TGI system accurately and in a timely manner. Record all downtime events in the Machine Log system to support accurate reporting and troubleshooting. Retrieve packaging materials from the warehouse before runs and return unused materials to warehouse storage at the end of the run. Use computers and RF guns proficiently to access data, scan materials, and update inventory or production records. Rotate continuously within assigned workstations, including packaging tortillas, boxing tortillas, lifting boxes up to 50 lbs, and palletizing product throughout the shift. Assist with quality assurance programs, including pH verification, metal detection checks, recording pH levels, and identifying any specification deviations or line quality issues. Follow and comply with all SQF requirements and maintain workstations in accordance with SQF guidelines. Perform visual inspections of products and packaging to identify defects, nonconformities, or quality issues and promptly report them. Operate pallet jacks to move and transport finished products and raw materials to designated locations safely. Support general labor activities such as picking, stacking, palletizing, and basic material handling as needed. Adhere to all company policies related to food safety, sanitation, attendance, punctuality, and workplace conduct. Carry out other related duties as assigned to support production and operational goals. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.57 - $21.57/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
