Job Description

Packer / Wrangler position available with a legacy Bob Marshall Wilderness outfitter. We take week-long summer horse packing trips and fall hunting trips into the far reaches of this vast wilderness area. We use riding horses and pack mules to take these excursions all over the eastern side of the Bob. Packers will work extensively with stock, sometimes 30 at a time on larger trips. We wrangle stock for grazing purposes, and ride/pack to get all the gear to different campsites are we progress on the trips. Spend the season in the most scenic wilderness in the continental US. We are a small, tightly knit team that love being outdoors and are highly collaborative in providing exceptional backcountry trip experiences for our customers. Our customers may be equine enthusiasts, fly fishing enthusiasts, big game hunters, and general adventurers looking for exceptional trips into the rugged wild country of Montana. The packer-wranglers work with livestock extensively. Must be proficient with stock (horses & mules) and able to move quickly and confidently in stock handling, saddling, and riding. We prefer some packing experience as the learning curve is steep. Packer-wranglers lead mule strings of 6-8 stock, often working as a team of 2, getting stock and gear from one campsite to the next. Our trips will have between 15 and 35 hd of stock on each trip. We provide room and board for the season. We have a large house with a full kitchen and laundry when we're out of the mountains. When on the trips, we provide all meals. We usually have 2 days in between trips.
