Job Description

General Overview:
Wholesale Meat Packer Attention to detail is particularly important for Meat Packers because Lanning's has high standards for personnel safety, food safety, product quality and customer satisfaction. A Lanning's wholesale Meat Packer is responsible for packing product to the customer's specification, following Lanning's practices and meeting federal regulation. We use equipment such as vacuum packers and scales. Employees must follow sanitation standards when cleaning equipment, counter tops and working areas in order to prevent cross contamination. Employees assist in packing product, stacking pallets, and assisting cutters, room manager and co-workers as needed. Other job functions include the ability to identify quality control issues, assisting cutters or other production lines. Personnel should have the ability to operate any equipment deemed necessary for production purposes. Meat Packers should possess the ability to learn, understand and practice all company policies, practices and procedures including government regulations along with the ability to follow instructions and complete all required records accurately and neatly. Meat Packers report to the Plant Manager.

Early morning, day, evenings, and some holidays may be required.
Working Conditions/Environment:
This job functions in a refrigerated, damp cutting room in temperatures maintained below 45 degrees at all times.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are a representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work includes lifting and carrying product weighing up to 80 lbs., repetitive arm and hand movements, hand-eye coordination, substantial hand strength, and standing in place for long periods of time.

Essential Functions/Duties:
  • Adhere to all company, state and other policies, procedures and practices, for employee and food safety.
  • Work in cold, damp conditions.
  • Pack product to customer specification.
  • Operate scales, vacuum sealer and other equipment.
  • Learn labels, packaging types and box types.
  • Learn product and assist with marinating, tenderizing or other procedures as needed.
  • Hand-eye coordination and repetitive arm and hand movements.
  • Clean equipment, supplies, tools, storage and work areas to maintain health and sanitation standards and comply with company policy and safety regulations.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving whole body.
  • Lift, walk, stoop, carry, pull, push and otherwise handle materials weighing up to 80 lbs.
  • Operate fork lifts, electric pallet jacks, and other equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Practice first-in, first-out rotation cycle.
  • Monitor and assess products, areas, and other factors for issues that may have an adverse impact on finished products. Communicate these issues with appropriate personnel.
  • Complete all required records and documentation neatly and accurately.
  • Training other personnel as needed.
  • Contribute to team effort by being reliable, respectful and supportive.
Pay:
From $16.00 per hour
