Full Job Description Job Overview:
The Category Manager is responsible for category management for the Fresh departments (Deli, Meat & Seafood, Cheese, and Produce) and supports cross-functional initiatives. This role focuses on analyzing performance, guiding product assortment and placement, and developing insight-driven strategies that support overall sales and profitability. The Category Manager blends data analysis, product strategy, and merchandising to drive category growth and enhance the customer experience.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Category Performance and Strategy Monitor and analyze product performance, sales, and profitability to identify opportunities for growth and improvement. Support category reviews, assortment decisions, and product placement strategies that drive financial performance. Stay informed on industry trends, customer preferences, and emerging products to guide category decisions. Merchandising and In-Store Execution Apply category management and merchandising principles to develop effective, visually compelling displays. Highlight product features and benefits while ensuring accurate and strategic product placement. Integrate seasonal and specialty products in alignment with trends and category goals. Identify and implement cross-merchandising opportunities to enhance the shopping experience and increase sales. Collaboration and Vendor Partnerships Partner with operational teams and cross-functional stakeholders to align on category strategies and execution. Identify and evaluate new products and vendors to expand and diversify offerings. Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to support product partnerships and category growth.
Qualifications and Skills:
Strong organizational, project management, and planning skills with the ability to execute independently. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and stakeholders. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Experience:
3+ years of category management or product line management experience (Fresh departments preferred). Experience with planogram and assortment tools (e.g., Spaceman, BlueYonder) preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, primarily Excel (creating VLOOKUPs, SUMIFs, formatting, pivot tables, INDEX & MATCH, CONCATENATE, etc.) required. High school diploma required, college degree preferred.
Physical Demands:
Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Working Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
