Position Summary:
The Director of Purchasing will lead purchasing operations, overseeing an annual purchase budget of $70 to $80 million. This role manages 99+ item categories and approximately 10,000 SKUs. The Director will supervise a team of purchasing agents, ensuring efficient daily operations and optimization of purchasing practices. A critical focus will be sustaining a 98.5% fill rate and ensuring seamless operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the purchasing team, including hiring, training, and developing high-performing purchasing agents. Develop and execute procurement strategies that balance cost, quality, and service levels. Work with supply chain team on the full procurement lifecycle, from supplier selection and onboarding to contract execution and performance monitoring. Manage supplier performance, ensuring reliability, compliance, and cost efficiency and review supplier scorecard periodically. Achieve and maintain a 98.5% fill rate by monitoring inventory, demand forecasts, and supplier lead times and work with logistics team to ensure on time delivery. Drive continuous improvement in purchasing processes through data analytics and technology adoption. Ensure proficiency in JD Edwards operating system to effectively manage procurement workflows. Demonstrate deep understanding of forecasting tools and methodologies to ensure accurate demand planning. Utilize SQL Server skills to analyze procurement data, generate reports, and identify operational improvements. Collaborate with supply chain, finance, and sales teams to align purchasing strategies with business goals. Track and report key KPIs, including spend, cost efficiency, supplier performance, and fill rates. Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations, including ethical sourcing standards.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred. 10+ years in purchasing and supply chain, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Proven experience managing multi-million-dollar procurement portfolios across diverse categories. Work history in machining & metal category preferred. Deep knowledge of forecasting techniques and tools, ensuring precise demand planning. Proficiency in JD Edwards operating system for efficient procurement management. SQL Server skills to analyze procurement data and drive insights. Strong leadership skills with a track record of building and motivating teams. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and implement improvements. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Detail-oriented, with a commitment to customer satisfaction.
