Job Description

We re looking for a passionate, strategic sourcing leader who lives People. Food. Together. At Foster, we re building the smartest, leanest supply chain in the mid-Atlantic - connecting people and food faster, fresher, with fewer links and less waste. We re growing fast, and we need a Purchasing Manager who can lead our procurement team with energy, creativity, and a true people-first mindset. The Role As Purchasing Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of our entire procurement function. You ll directly supervise the Purchasing Supervisor and Buyer team while driving sourcing strategy, margin performance, supplier relationships, and supply chain excellence across fresh produce and related categories. Key Responsibilities Lead and develop a high-performing procurement team Drive strategic sourcing, forecasting, pricing, and margin management Build strong collaboration between Buyers, Sales, Operations, and the executive team Identify new product lines, sourcing opportunities, and innovative pricing models Monitor and improve key metrics (margins, fill rates, spoilage, inventory accuracy) Manage freight logistics, backhauls, and vendor compliance Support onboarding of new business with precise forecasting and cost strategies Who You Are A dynamic, self-motivated leader with 8-10 years of progressive experience in food distribution procurement (fresh produce experience strongly preferred) Passionate about people, culture, and making work enjoyable A collaborative team player who thrives on processes, performance, and continuous improvement Skilled in analytics, market trend analysis, commodity contracting, and profitability strategies Someone who brings creativity, integrity, and a genuine desire to see others succeed If you re energized by fresh foods, love building strong supplier relationships, and want to make a real impact in a growing, people-first company, we want to talk to you.
