Category Manager - Protein

Job Summary:

The Protein Category Manager is responsible for sourcing and pricing proteins (beef, pork, poultry, seafood etc.) servicing distribution customers as well as internal production needs. This role requires strong negotiation skills, market awareness, and cross-functional collaboration with sales, QA, and customer relations.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain supplier relationships for beef, pork, seafood and poultry products. Attend industry events and trade shows to stay current on market trends and pricing strategies. Conduct routine market updates and provide pricing intelligence to internal stakeholders. Lead supplier negotiations to ensure optimal pricing, quality, and delivery terms. Support Quality Assurance (Partner/Support QA) in evaluating supplier compliance and standards. Coordinate customer visits and represent the company in supplier-facing discussions. Conduct location visits and monitor supplier performance on-site. Manage inventory and pricing strategy in alignment with sales forecasts and business goals. Operate within established financial guardrails to ensure profitability and cost discipline. Collaborate with education programs to enhance knowledge (e.g., Further Education, Negotiation Course). Provide strategic input for new product development and protein-based offerings.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Agriculture, or related field. 10+ years of experience in protein procurement, preferably in beef, pork, poultry, or seafood. Experience with box-in-box-out distribution as well as further processing. Strong understanding of protein markets and pricing indexes. Proven negotiation and contract management skills. Willingness to travel to supplier and customer sites regularly. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Compensation includes a base salary + quarterly bonus.

Pay:

$120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
