American Airlines, Inc. has opening for a Category Manager, Strategic Sourcing to perform the following duties: Responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategic programs which meet the needs of the internal stakeholders while addressing pricing, acquisition, total cost, lead-time and supply, as well as managing contracts and suppliers; Represent the company in business transactions with both internal and external organizations; Create, implement, and manage strategies, negotiations, RFPs, and contracts; Create, negotiate, implement and manage long-term contracts while effectively developing and promoting strategic partnerships with suppliers; Analyze price proposals, reports, and data to determine reasonable prices; Negotiate contracts on behalf of American Airlines; Evaluate suppliers on the basis of price, quality, and speed of delivery for products and services; Work closely with internal American Airlines customers and stakeholders to understand their business needs, objectives, product/service requirements and the broader operational processes; Effectively communicate with appropriate management levels both internally and externally; Identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions for change; Assist with the Training program for the Procurement & Supply Chain team, as necessary; Evaluate and monitor contracts to ensure that vendors and suppliers comply with the terms and conditions of the contract and to determine the need for changes; Assist with the Supplier Diversity program, as necessary.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics, Economics, or related field, plus 1 year of experience as Analyst, Commodity Manager, or any occupation in which the required experience was gained, and demonstrated experience in: Category management in airline or manufacturing industry; Aviation markets and vendors; Proven ability to manage $100M+ categories and lead multi-million dollar strategic initiatives including forecasting strategy development and executive-level reporting; Strong commercial negotiation expertise for high tech products and services, with end to end negotiation experience from
RFI,RFP, RFQ
through Master Agreement execution; Advanced analytical and cost reduction capabilities to drive measurable savings through competitive sourcing; Proven ability to draft, evaluate, and manage short and long-term contracts, including enforcing SLAs, assessing contractual and operational risks, calculating potential exposure, and securing supplier reimbursements; Skilled in developing and executing comprehensive category strategies, RFPs, and negotiation frameworks, with experience evaluating suppliers on price, quality, performance, and delivery speed, and ensuring ongoing contract compliance and timely amendments; Skilled in developing and implementing strategic procurement programs that incorporate stakeholder needs, total cost of ownership, pricing, lead times, and supply continuity, while identifying process improvement opportunities and delivering solutions through process mapping and interactive dashboards; Experience representing Company in business transactions and managing strategic supplier partnerships; Advanced data analysis skills including analyzing price proposals, spend data, and reports using SQL, Excel, Power BI and Alteryx to build long-term category strategies and dashboards; Experience partnering with internal stakeholders to understand business needs, operational requirements, and end-to-end processes; Experience presenting complex business challenges and securing leadership approval for strategic initiatives; Supply chain systems; ERP platforms including SAP, Oracle Cloud, and Sceptre; Procurement terminology; Coupa modules; Ability to independently resolve system issues; Capable of monitoring economic indices and inflation trends and integrating insights into category strategies and negotiation decisions.
