Summary:
The Purchasing Manager drives strategic sourcing and vendor management, overseeing the full contract lifecycle , from initial review and negotiation through ongoing performance management, while ensuring alignment with business objectives and effective risk mitigation. The Purchasing Manager builds and maintains the confidence of the producers by effectively meeting project requirements. They help drive innovation, develop strong partner relationships, identify and onboard qualified vendors, and provide critical project support to the team. They manage within budget constraints, even when faced with lead time challenges. The role requires a proven ability to review and interpret complex contracts with urgency and strong commercial acumen. This individual demonstrates knowledge of the trades we serve and common deliverables, including retail displays and environments, exhibits, tours, and experiential spaces. They develop expertise in custom cabinet, display, and exhibit manufacturing methodologies. Additional areas of familiarity include steel and aluminum fabrication, technology integration, 3D printing, large format graphic printing, and material sciences. They are proficient in reading blueprints and communicating effectively with internal teams and external partners who utilize CAD-based modeling and CAM-based programming. Essential Responsibilities:
Collaboration Establish and strengthen relationships while delivering on-time production within budget limitations. Lead and develop staff, expanding sourcing knowledge and empowering more efficient, solution-oriented processes. Promote a cross-functional, collaborative approach aligned with "best in class" insights, learnings, and practices. Work effectively with diverse personalities and communication styles, including in high pressure or challenging situations. Negotiation & Dispute Resolution Negotiate favorable contract terms and conditions (pricing, SLAs, liability, termination), partnering with the Corporate Controller to ensure clarity and enforceability. Represent the company in supplier negotiations. Anticipates potential issues and proactively resolve vendor disputes. Recognize and manage competing stakeholder interests and priorities effectively. Budget Development & Procurement Prepare and process purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment. Maintain purchasing and recordkeeping systems and analyze data to drive continual improvements. Evaluate and approve vendor qualifications and purchasing decisions. Present clear, concise and visually effective price comparisons. Develop and enhance processes, technologies, and tools to improve departmental efficiency. Source subcontract labor and production partners; manage and execute RFP and RFI processes. Operate within defined project budget and manage risk transfer, performance, quality, and vendor requirements Through supplier selection and contracting. Oversee contract execution, monitor compliance, manage renewals and expirations, and drive renegotiations to maximize value. Diagnostic Information Gathering Under stakeholder direction, source and qualify vendors for fabrication ensuring alignment with quality, timeline, and profitability goals. Continuously identify and evaluate new domestic and international vendors (APAC, EMEA, AMER) across manufacturing disciplines (e.g. wood, cabinet, vac-form, injection molding, aluminum/metal manufacturing, powder coating, fiber glass, plastics, technology, etc.)., Apply structured evaluation methods to qualify new business vendors and contract management in accordance with company and client requirements. Maintain and update current, available supplier samples and curate material sample room. Broadly understand market conditions, assess current material availability, and anticipate future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables. Attention to Communication Communicate and coordinate incoming orders with appropriate colleagues and external vendors. Respond to communications promptly and professionally. Clearly communicate project needs including scope, rationale, and execution details. Adapt communication styles to effectively engage diverse vendors and stakeholders.• Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
College degree or equivalent required. 5+ years of experience purchasing materials and services in custom manufacturing. 3+ years of procurement experience in one or more of company's experiential revenue streams. Proven track record of building and maintaining profitable vendor relationships. Proficient in Microsoft 365. Proficiency in an ERP or Accounting Software.
KNOWLEDGE
Strong understanding of manufacturing methods and processes enabling accurate cost assumptions and successful negotiations and conclusions. Familiarity with print manufacturing materials and consumables such as rolled goods, inks, adhesives, substrates, and finishing supplies (preferred). SKILLS Demonstrated ability to source, evaluate, and manage multiple vendor relationships. Proven ability to meet deadlines and display time-management skills. Effective problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering practical solutions. Experience working in data-driven production environments with measurable performance outcomes.
