Bean's Cafe exists to fight hunger and homelessness one meal at a time.
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Support Services Manager, the Program Facilitator directly connects and builds mentor relationships with participants, guiding them through the entire life cycle of the Streets to Success program. The Program Facilitator will conduct program screening and document data into HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) or other data portal(s), facilitate groups and connect participants to social services, medical services, and housing resources. This position is mobile as well as on site.
Supports Vision:
The Program Facilitator supports the mission of Bean's Cafe by guiding participants to find their pathway to self-sufficiency.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain positive, healthy, and trusting mentor relationships with participants. Facilitate the program and interactive journaling based on the curriculum. Implements individualized plans for participants on their assigned caseload. Promote participation, accountability, and involvement with the program and social enterprises. Assists participants with accessing resources and making referrals. Provides transportation in company-owned vehicle for participants to and from community resources and social enterprise activities. Builds a culture within the agency focused on guiding participants to exit from homelessness. Provides advocacy for participants when they encounter barriers. Assists in obtaining documentation such as ID, social security card and other pertinent documentation. Completes and maintains program files such as forms, interviews, tracks interactions, participant outcomes, and other reports as directed. Establishes and maintains positive, productive working relationships with other community partners and resources. Completes data collection requirements for AKHMIS and follows standards and procedures outlined in the policy, completing required training when necessary. May perform other duties and job responsibilities as assigned by management.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Exhibits dedication to the mission and vision of the organization. Treats all participants, staff, volunteers, and partners with dignity and respect. Ability to work with a diverse population including underprivileged adults, individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse issues, individuals with a criminal history and individuals with domestic abuse issues. Basic understanding of severe mental health, physical health, and substance abuse issues and symptoms. Listens with sensitivity to other people's feelings, needs, and point of view; demonstrates tact and courtesy in expressing options or ideas. Proficient with computers, related technology, and working knowledge of Office 365, including SharePoint. Strong interpersonal and project management skills. Evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, knowledge, experience, and judgment. Maintains a non-judgmental attitude and a display of unconditional positive regard with care and compassion. Displays appropriate, professional, healthy boundaries and exercises mature judgment and understanding of safety concerns. Completes tasks timely and efficiently, utilizing good organizational skills and managing multiple cases efficiently and effectively. Undergo additional training, as requested. Maintains personal and professional integrity and handles confidential information with discretion. Desires to grow in knowledge of homeless services and resources. Ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays; and the ability to work flexible hours when needed. On-call hours may be required. Must always have a working cell phone on and available for cell phone calls during working hours.
Background and Experience:
Undergraduate in social work or related field, is preferred but not required. Experience in social work or navigation services within a nonprofit organization is preferred. At least 2-3 years of experience working in a recovery program or treatment center is required. Have a good understanding of psychotherapy, specifically cognitive and behavioral. Lived experience is beneficial and highly preferred; must have at least 5 years or more in recovery. Possess a valid Alaska driver's license in good standing and a reliable source of transportation. Undergo a background check (please note; undergoing a background check will not inhibit you from being hired - Bean's Cafe is a Second Chance Employer). Ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English. Familiar with Trauma Informed Care and Crisis Prevention (CPI) Training is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds from the ground up. Must be able to climb stairs. Must be able to work with background distractions. Must have normal range of hearing and vision with or without correction. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time without needing assistance.
