Program Summary:
Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) is a program of Conservation Legacy (CL). ALCC focuses on conservation service opportunities for indigenous youth, young adults, and recent-era military veterans in Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona and works with other Native American communities and conservation corps across the country to provide similar opportunities. Our vision is to lead our Nations back to ecological and cultural well-being and we do this by empowering individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities, and the environment. ALCC crews are supported from operational bases in Acoma Pueblo, Albuquerque, Zuni Pueblo, Gallup, and Kykotsmovi (Hopi), with an Individual Placement (IP) program that serves the region. The Wood for Life (WFL) program is an initiative to provide firewood to rural Indigenous communities in the Southwest. The program implements projects in coordination with the US Forest Service, various non-profits, and local tribal communities like Hopi and Navajo reservations. WFL is a logistically complex operation with multiple stakeholders. The project involves chainsaw operation, chipping, and large material hauling.
Position Summary:
The Hopi Wood for Life Program Coordinator's (PC) primary responsibilities are to work with the WFL team to coordinate conservation projects on the Coconino National Forest, prepare and support field-based crews on front country projects, and manage project partner and agency relationships. The PC will assist in maintaining safe operations in local office in Kykotsmovi, AZ. The overarching objectives of this position are to help coordinate projects, support crew safety and overall program quality, and ensure timelines and deliverables are met.
Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Onboarding Attend local outreach events and volunteer opportunities. Assist with interviewing, selecting, and onboarding AmeriCorps Members and crew leaders. Participate in orientations and basic trainings for incoming participants. Maintain member personnel files in organizational database Project Coordination and Training Work with colleagues to develop and implement training schedules, including technical trails, chainsaw, herbicide application, medical, leadership, and facilitation skills. Work with project partners to coordinate project logistics and technical assistance. Develop and maintain partnerships and standing with community and project partners, including tribal government agencies and non-profits. Train crew leaders and members on policies, protocols, and safety culture. Field Support Mentor and supervise field personnel. Provide technical expertise, guidance, and support to crews in the field. Ensure risk management and program quality expectations and standards are upheld and met. Enforce all ALCC and CL Policies and Procedures. Coordinate logistics for crews, including renting equipment, monitoring inventory, leading maintenance of program tools, gear, and equipment at location and assisting logistics staff with inventory tracking. Contribute photos and narratives to program social media. General Administration Manage multiple databases for recruitment, selection, onboarding, payroll, time sheets, and AmeriCorps information. Manage and maintain accurate reporting of all necessary information and complete program reports including field site visits, recruiting notes, and accomplishments. Assist ALCC directors and managers with end-of-year reporting, including gathering of project evaluations from partners and other data. Work within the established program budget; manage credit cards, receipts, and financial reporting. Work closely with administrative staff to ensure completion of paperwork tasks and AmeriCorps requirements to compliance standards. Maintain an organized operational base and assist managers to ensure health and safety compliance of the workplace.

Physical requirements may include periodic overnight travel, non-traditional work hours, ability to move across varied terrain, use program-specific tools and a range of technology on an infrequent or frequent basis. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. The ability to safely drive an organizational vehicle may also be required for some positions. Minimum Qualifications:
Full commitment to the program and its mission. Understanding of and experience with the mission and field management considerations of conservation corps and public land agencies. Leadership, management, and supervisory experience with youth or young adults. Must hold current advanced medical certification (for backcountry crews: 80 hours Wilderness First Responder with CPR/AED or higher; for front country crews: 24 hours Wilderness First Aid with CPR/AED or higher) or be willing to receive certification prior to start date. Ability to effectively manage all aspects of crew life and production within a 40-50+-hour work week including managing projects, camping, and programmatic policies and integrity throughout. Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work environment. Willingness to participate in community-building activities and solution-oriented problem solving with peer leaders. Able to work long days in adverse conditions. Must be able to speak, understand and write English. High School diploma or GED certificate. Must over the age of 21 or have possessed a driver's license for 3 or years more without any restrictions (to pass minimum insurability requirements for crew transport driving duties). Experience with experiential and/or environmental education. Experience with backpacking, wilderness living and travel. Facilitation and team-building experience with diverse groups of people. Time-management skills and ability to work independently as well as with others. Strong conflict resolution skills. Technical trails, Crosscut or Chainsaw experience. Sense of humor, spirit of adventure, and desire to make a positive difference and promote leadership in others.
