WIC Training Coordinator Salary $44,436.12 - $55,494.63 Annually Location Show Low, AZ Job Type Full Time Job Number 2026-00201 Department Health District Opening Date 04/27/2026 Closing Date Continuous Description Benefits Questions Summary Under general supervision, screens, completes certifications, and provides comprehensive nutrition assessments and breastfeeding support to WIC program participants according to federal guidelines, rules, and regulations. Functions in a designated Coordinator role with expanded WIC duties as assigned for all WIC clinics in Navajo County. WIC Clinic and performs related work as assigned. Reports to the WIC Program Manager. This position is grant-funded, with employment contingent upon availability of grant funding. Determines program eligibility in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and procedures. Explains program procedures, regulations, processes, and timelines to applicants and representatives. Conducts interviews and accurately documents information on residency, income, and family situation in a computerized participant database. Obtains, evaluates and documents height, weight, blood samples, health history, and dietary intake. Conducts nutrition assessments and evaluates dietary intake patterns. Performs follow-up on low-risk clients. Provides participant-centered nutrition education to participants individually or in groups according to age, category, health risks and family needs. Provides individual nutrition counseling and group education to low-risk clients. Evaluates family needs for health care, financial, and social assistance to make and document appropriate referrals. Refers clients to other community health and assistance programs. Schedules and reschedules participant appointments according to processing standard requirements. Assigns and tailors appropriate food packages for eligible participants based on age, category, health risks, and family needs. Issues food benefits for eligible WIC participants. Documents all nutrition assessments and education in the computer database. Promotes breastfeeding and breastfeeding support activities. Maintains security and inventory of food benefit supplies. Plans and participates in community outreach activities. Attends meetings, trainings, and conferences as required. May conduct individual and group nutrition education and breastfeeding classes. Maintains eWIC cards, program records and equipment security. Maintains department and participant confidentiality. Prepares and maintains records and reports. Assesses staff needs and coordinates staff development activities and trainings with the WIC Director, Nutrition Coordinator, Breastfeeding Coordinator, and Training Coordinator. Monitors, observes, and evaluates assigned WIC clinic staff based on identified competencies. Monitors assigned clinic schedule and clinic day-to-day flow. Maintains clinic inventory log and communicates needs. Monitors the clinic environment and reports and addresses issues as needed. Functions as the designated Training Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator or Breastfeeding Coordinator.Training Coordinator:
Leads the development of the Local Agency staff training portion of the Nutrition Services and Training Plan in coordination with the Nutrition, Outreach and Breastfeeding Coordinators. Coordinates new employee training plan components and documents that each new employee has completed all required new employee training plan components for their job duties. Provides technical assistance and consultation to WIC staff and other health professionals on staff training topics. Plans, develops, and/or facilitates continuing education staff training through various methods, including but not limited to state e-learning courses, blended learning approach, and in-service training to ensure staff have skills in providing participant-centered nutrition education. Documents/Ensures that staff obtain a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education each year. Completes required training courses and ensures staff are meeting training requirements. Attends state-required training and/or designated state meetings for Training Coordinators. Collaborates with the Director, Program Manager, and other clinic leads to identify training needs on various topics and conducts staff meetings and other required training as assigned. Travel between WIC Local Agency Clinics as needed.Outreach Coordinator:
Under the supervision of the WIC Director and/or Program manager, conducts outreach to potentially eligible populations and tracks outreach efforts to try to increase awareness of WIC services and increase caseload. Updates the resource guide and program flyers annually. Reviews email templates and other participant correspondence as needed. Other duties as outlined in the Arizona WIC Program Manual or assigned.Breastfeeding Coordinator:
Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of breastfeeding activities. Assesses staff breastfeeding educational needs and comfort levels. Provides ongoing support to WIC staff and participants regarding breastfeeding. Provides advanced lactation counseling and support to WIC participants. Assesses breastfeeding situations and provides counseling to high-risk mothers and infants. Follows the IBCLC Scope of Practice as issued by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. Keeps current with up-to-date breastfeeding information and disseminates to WIC staff. Provides training and education in lactation management. Identifies, coordinates, and collaborates with community breastfeeding stakeholders. Monitors Local Agency breastfeeding rates. Ensures the breast pump program aligns with Arizona WIC policy and procedures and monitors breast pump inventory status. Attends annual Breastfeeding Coordinators meeting and other workgroups as assigned. Coordinates breastfeeding promotion activities in WIC and the community. Other duties as required or assigned. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of health and nutrition principles and terminology. Understanding the availability of health and human services/resources in the community. Familiarity with general office practices and procedures. Ability to provide culturally sensitive services. Skill in interpreting, applying, and ensuring compliance with rules, regulations, and guidelines. Proficiency in using computers and other office equipment and machines. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Complete Arizona WIC new employee training within 12 weeks of hire and as needed. Complete Arizona WIC Breastfeeding training within one year of hire and as needed. Desirable Qualifications An associate or bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field, or a Current Dietetic Technician Registered (NDTR), or a Current IBCLC credential is preferred. Three (3) years of job-related experience, including direct WIC services, is preferred. Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license.
