POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena is a dynamic, innovative, youth-serving organization that is committed to helping all children build positive, lifelong memories, achieve their greatest potential, and inspire future generations. The Athletics Coordinator's primary responsibility is to ensure every child has a safe, first-class after-school experience. This is done by acting as a positive, engaging adult role model, teacher, coach, and mentor. Professionals must have a genuine interest in the growth, development, and provision of a safe and nurturing environment for the students they teach, inspire, encourage, and impact. Professionals work directly with an assigned group of approximately 20-25 students. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Whether at a Branch Clubhouse or on a school campus site, the Athletics Coordinator oversees sports programs to enhance the movement, sports knowledge, coordination and agility, and sportsmanship of Club members. Must provide age-appropriate programs for members ages 5-18 that are supportive of Boys & Girls Clubs' core competencies, core programs, and youth development strategy VALUES All employees are expected to promote and adhere to Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena's values: integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence
KEY ROLES
(Essential Job Responsibilities) Prepare Youth for Success Plan and oversee the administration of designated Club programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes. Oversee the provision of day-to-day athletics activities in accordance with established standards and goals Following the guidelines of Boys & Girls Club of America's Formula for Impact (FFI), provide an upbeat, fun, and safe out-of-school experience for kids ages 5-13 Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s) Demonstrate leadership to assure the good conduct, safety, and development of members Strategic Plan Support the advancement and implementation of BGCP's Strategic Plan goals Commitment to Safety Contribute to environment of safety through the learning, implementation, and monitoring of all safety-related best practices, policies, and procedures Promote accountability to safety through consistent observation, adherence to all safety rules and practices and proactive communication among members, parents, peers, and leadership Approach behavior as communication by practicing positive reinforcement and implementing strategies that help members identify and correct challenging behaviors Obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter training and complete annual Child Abuse Prevention training Complete training and participate in all Emergency Preparedness protocols including drills and communication practices Participate in staff development and training activities when needed after hours or on weekends Program Development and Implementation Establish program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission Work with Branch Director/Site Supervisor to establish calendar and program offerings Develop program delivery skills in a way that fosters engagement and learning while building upon the mentor-mentee relationship Plan, organize, and prioritize programmatic deliverables including safety practices, curriculum, and individualized member engagement Conduct athletics programming during all program hours, with rotations of different age groups of members Ensure program space is maintained and kept safe and clean on a daily basis Program Evaluation Participate in the implementation of the Boys & Girls Club of America's annual National Youth Outcomes Initiative (NYOI) and other assessments and evaluations Participate in the evaluation of programming on a continual basis, ensuring activities respond to the needs of members Administer pre- and post-surveys of athletics programs, including finding (at BGCA) or creating survey questions Administration Maintain daily proper documentation of Club members participating in athletics programs, including tracking priority outcomes, duration, and frequency of attendance Utilize time prior to Club opening for the day for planning activities Report and fill out appropriate paperwork for all accidents and incidents Oversee supplies and equipment, requesting additional supplies and equipment maintenance when needed Control athletics program and activity expenditures within approved budget Marketing and Public Relations Increase visibility of Club athletics programs via posting of daily schedule and announcements of upcoming events Collaborate with administrative staff, providing timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers and media releases
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in special programs, events and other projects as directed by the Branch Director/Site Supervisor or administration May be required to drive Club mini-van periodically Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and community partners by utilizing objective language, engaging parents in formulating solutions, and activating appropriate communication channels Other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff and Club members to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.
External:
Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members' parents and other to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED
High School Diploma (required) and a minimum of 24-48 college units (preferred) Knowledge of and experience in delivering sports programs to children and youth Have a drive to work with a diverse group of students from different socio-economical backgrounds and levels of educational preparedness Exhibit the characteristics of strong leadership, patience, effective communication, and a consistent desire to learn and execute new programs Ability to project a positive image of Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena, and interact professionally with members, parents, volunteers, and others; including maintaining confidentiality as needed CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (Club will supply) Ability to speak and write Standard English Time management, planning, and organization skills Must pass Live Scan Fingerprinting and BGCA background check Must have transportation to and from work
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift and walk 75% of the time Must be able to function well in a loud and happy work environment Frequently communicates with children and parents who have inquiries about the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Must operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine and printer Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder Occasionally moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
