The Recreation and Human Services Department is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, public-service oriented individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to coordinate recreation offerings at the Blaisdell Community Center. The Program Specialist works with the Recreation and Human Services Department's Supervisor, Program Coordinator, and program partners to enhance program offerings for Elderly Nutrition Program participants at the Blaisdell Community Center site. They will be responsible for gathering and evaluating participant feedback to develop and facilitate relevant and engaging programming; scheduling and monitoring program providers; planning and executing special events; facility management and development of standard operating procedures for the site; support of resource referral efforts for social services as needed; volunteer management; and performing administrative tasks and special projects within the division as assigned. The Program Specialist is part-time and requires approximately 25 hours per week of work. This position is not eligible for benefits. Hours of work are generally Monday-Friday, from 9:30 a.m

MANDATORY SPECIAL EVENTS

The mandatory special events all staff are required to work include: Village Venture

• in October; Halloween Spooktacular
• Saturday before Halloween; Holiday Promenade
• First Friday in December; Spring Celebration
• Saturday before Easter; 4th of July Celebration
• July 4, Monday Night Concert series
• Mondays July
• August, Movies in the Park series
• varying nights in July.

In addition, Recreation and Human Services staff may be called upon to work for other special events throughout the year.

Education:

Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have completed 12th grade or equivalent GED.

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible experience in recreation, social or human services, or a related field.

Licenses and Certifications:

Possession of, or successful acquisition within six months of employment, a valid CPR and first aid certification, to be maintained throughout employment. A valid California Class C Driver's License and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and through employment is required. Individuals holding this position are considered mandated reporters under California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act ("CANRA"), Penal Code Section 11164-11174.3.
