Our students regularly participate in local, regional, and state science competitions, and we are seeking a Science Fair Coach to mentor and guide students through the scientific research and engineering design process. Position Overview The Science Fair Coach serves as a mentor, advisor, and project manager for students participating in science and engineering competitions. This role focuses on helping students develop, execute, and present high-quality projects while building critical thinking, problem-solving, research, and communication skills. The ideal candidate is organized, enthusiastic about science, and passionate about helping students succeed through independent inquiry and hands-on learning. Responsibilities Meet with individual students and small groups after school to provide project guidance and feedback. Help students develop research questions, experimental procedures, and engineering solutions. Guide students through the Scientific Method and Engineering Design Process. Assist students with academic research and locating credible sources. Monitor student progress and keep projects on track to meet key deadlines. Maintain project timelines and ensure students meet benchmarks throughout the year. Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, upcoming deadlines, and project needs. Review science fair paperwork, research plans, journals, and presentation materials. Provide support with display boards, presentations, and interview preparation. Collaborate with school administration regarding participation requirements and competition deadlines. Qualifications Successful candidates will possess many of the following qualifications: Strong background in science, engineering, education, research, or a related field. A degree is not required but highly prefered Familiarity with the Scientific Method and Engineering Design Process. Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational, coaching, or mentoring setting. Experience coaching or mentoring students in science fairs, STEM competitions, robotics, or similar programs. Familiarity with academic research methods and scientific writing. Strong organizational and project management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with both students and parents. Ability to motivate students while holding them accountable to deadlines and expectations. Experience using Canva for presentations, display boards, and visual communication. Experience preparing students for science fair interviews or presentations. Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of professionalism and reliability. Additional Information This position begins in August 2026 and continues through the completion of the science fair season in March 2027. While the schedule is relatively light during the fall, it increases during the spring competition season as students prepare for project completion, judging, and interviews. Candidates must successfully complete a DOJ background screening prior to employment.
