Job Description

Come work for the beautiful City of Redondo Beach located in Los Angeles County in the South Bay region known for its scenic beaches, relaxed seaside atmosphere, and vibrant waterfront as part of our Housing Authority Division of the Community Services Department. The Redondo Beach Housing Authority administers the Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance program. It also manages specialized programs such as Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH), Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHV), Project-Based Vouchers, and Foster Youth for Independence (FYI) programs that are funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which is a branch of the federal government. Under direction of a supervisor, this position is responsible for performing paraprofessional duties and supporting the Housing Division staff with general clerical tasks. The position serves as the first contact for the Housing Division providing outstanding customer service to program participants and the public. Responsibilities also include addressing general inquiries regarding the Housing programs administered by the Housing Division. This is a part-time, at-will position that is not eligible for City benefits. Prompt application is encouraged. Perform various routine administrative duties, including data entry and operating standard office equipment such as a personal computer. Effective use of software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Work in a professional office environment greeting patrons, answering telephones, filing, copying, scanning, proofreading documents, and other duties as assigned. Proposes, recommends, implements programs and activities, including but not limited to arts, exercise programs, and special events; participates in and coordinates fundraising activities; promotes community awareness of programs; selects, schedules, and directs part-time staff and volunteers; recommends and coordinates the purchase of program supplies and equipment; monitors and supervises program participants; makes behavioral referrals when necessary; confers and collaborates with other social services providers as appropriate; collects and analyzes data and prepares reports for management staff; operates a motor vehicle in the performance of job duties; and performs related duties as required.
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of, or experience with, Housing programs such as Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) or Affordable Housing is highly desirable. Materials, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to youth and senior activities, recreational programs, group activities, games and sports; applicable health and safety regulations; first aid; record keeping practices and procedures; modern office practices, procedures and equipment; report writing; basic mathematical computations; applicable sections of the California Vehicle Code.
Ability to:
Meet medical and physical employment standards for the classification; read, write, speak and understand English; understand and follow oral and written directions; compose correspondence, brochures, flyers and other informational documents; provide information to the public in person, by telephone, or through written correspondence where judgment, knowledge and interpretive skills may be required; communicate effectively orally and in writing; work overtime as necessary; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and members of the public; legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California.
Education and Experience:
Effective leadership skills, creativity, good decision making and exercising appropriate judgment, the ability to teach, and the ability to lead by example are preferred qualities. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply. Must possess a valid California Driver's License. Completion of high school is required, and some college course work a related field is highly desired.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process may include but is not limited to: Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. For public safety positions, including positions based in the Police and/or Fire Department(s), the pre-employment process may also include but not be limited to a P.O.S.T. compliant background check, polygraph examination, post-offer medical examination and drug test, and post-offer psychological examination.
