DESCRIPTION UC

UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011. The Trauma Performance Improvement Specialist provides support to the Trauma Program Manager (TPM) for all Trauma Performance Improvement/Peer Review activities. Assures performance improvement in accordance with San Diego Trauma System and the American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma verification process. The Trauma PI Specialist is responsible for the PI process, performance improvement plans and utilizes the Trauma registry for the aggregation, monitoring and reporting of regulatory mandated and/or program specific quality metrics. Coordinates, implements and maintains trauma performance improvement/peer review process for the Trauma Program at UCSDH. Reviews adverse events, monitors for trends, develops and plans practice changes in collaboration with the TPM. Works in conjunction with the Trauma Registrars to identify any PI issues. This position is mostly computer work and not direct patient care and location is in Hillcrest. While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A
Bachelor's Degree in nursing or other healthcare profession; or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience. Three (3) years minimum clinical experience in a Trauma Level 1/2 center Surgical ICU care. Experience in trauma program operations or trauma registry. Thorough knowledge of QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatoryrequirements. Thorough knowledge of QI models, measurement tools, and techniques, including collection,aggregation, abstraction, validation, analysis, and reporting of data. Experience in public speaking. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications.
Skills Knowledge:
Ability to think proactively, act creatively, critical-thinking, excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work as part of multiple teams. Ability to work in diverse cultural community groups.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California. Experience in statistical reports, peer review, performance improvement and epidemiology. Knowledge of computers: Epic, Power Point, Excel. Knowledge of AIS and ICD coding. TNCC or ATCN course within last 4 years. TOPIC Course within last 5 years. AIS and ICD course within the last 4 years. Experience with Trauma Verification.
