Description of Job The Work Unit:
.he mission of the Green Business and Environmental Assistance Unit is to instill a sustainability perspective in all of the department's work and to encourage practices that protect and improve the environment, grow sustainable business, and lead to healthy communities. The unit provides resources that support community efforts to be innovative in reaching these goals. The four strategic focus areas for the unit include: funding; technical assistance; recognition; collaboration and partnerships. The Green Business and Environmental Assistance Unit is under the direction of the Division Director and works to centralize and enhance the department's oversight of cross-cutting and voluntary environmental protection programs and initiatives. The unit works closely with other environmental and health divisions to assure that initiatives are integrated into the department's traditional environmental protection and public health efforts in an efficient and effective manner.
What You Will Do:
Under supervision, this position is to serve as an environmental protection specialist within the Green Business and Environmental Assistance Unit to serve both the Medication Takeback and Green Business Network Programs. This position coordinates the department's Household Medication Takeback (MTB) Program which also includes the safe collection and disposal of needles. The department's primary response to the proliferation of PPCPs in the environment is the implementation of the HMTB Program, developed not only as a strategy to reduce the presence of PPCPs in the environment, but also to reduce the likelihood of misuse of pharmaceuticals remaining in the home once expired or no longer needed. This position implements the program and coordinates the activities of collection locations and oversees the program's contractor and monitors progress on the contract. This position also supports the Colorado Green Business Network through data management, application review, and event and communications support as needed. This position is designed to provide essential programmatic support to the Colorado Green Business Network, expanding the quality of services offered to businesses and regional programs by organizing and establishing work processes to ensure the delivery of program services. This position will participate in the development of processes, coordinate essential program services and implementation of guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Medication Take-Back Program Coordination With oversight and supervision from the unit manager, this position is responsible for: Coordinate the activities of the Colorado Household Medication Take-Back Program, including regulatory compliance; methods development; records management; and collection site recruitment, establishment, and support. Conduct site visits and inspections at collection sites to ensure compliance with program rules, applicable regulations, and contract requirements. Develop and conduct outreach campaigns to collection sites as appropriate to promote the program and proper disposal when funding allows. Provide accurate data on program usage and develop an appropriate projection to provide to the GBEAU Manager that will be used to develop the annual budget for contracts. Green Business Program Process Coordination Under the guidance of a supervisor, supports the Green Business Network through developing and coordinating work processes under direct supervision of the unit manager to ensure effective delivery of program services and implementation of guidelines and objectives. Coordinate annual contract processes and purchasing for the Small Business Equity Fund, CSU Internship contract and other grant programs in order to ensure proper adherence to procedure and timely processing of invoices. Operates as an off-site coach for businesses seeking to better understand our program application and the metrics required for recognition. Household Sharps Take-Back Program Coordination Under guidance from the supervisor: Coordinate the Colorado Sharps Take-Back Program to provide additional locations for the safe collection and disposal of needles. Work with the unit manager on development of a sharps contract and solicitation as-needed; working with fiscal and procurement staff on contract development and renewal; Identifying and implementing collection methods and locations; and developing and implementing public outreach materials and campaigns. Provide accurate data on program usage and develop an appropriate projection to provide to the GBEAU Manager that will be used to develop the annual budget for contracts. Contract Monitoring to ensure that contractor activities are being accomplished on time, are complete, and are reported in an accurate manner. Colorado Green Business Unit General Program Support This position performs a range of duties in support of the department's Green Business Program, including associated activities that support the program's recognition event.
Duties may include:
Supporting the development of new practices, policies, and procedures for the Green Business Program; Networking with local, state, or national Green Business Programs; Assisting in the review of applications for recognition, including site verifications Supporting Green Business Program marketing, recruitment, and recognition; Other programmatic activities necessary to support operations of the Green Business Program. Program Support for the SARA Title III Program Coordinator This position will provide backup support for the SARA Title III Program Coordinator in activities tied to activities of Tier II reporting and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) data analysis. Under the direction and guidance of the supervisor and primary SARA Title III Program Coordinator, the employee will have the following job duties: Checking the mailbox daily and responding to e-mail questions. Providing compliance assistance to businesses in regards to their Tier II reporting responsibilities under EPCRA. Guiding businesses through the Tier II reporting process including CEOS (or other similar system) registration. Understanding and maintaining a Tier2Submit database for the state. Supporting businesses in completing payment of TRI fees Creating and assembling a bi-annual TRI report for the state, which includes an analysis of pollution trends in Colorado. Tracking assessed Tier II fees and following up with entities who have not paid associated fees. Other Duties as Assigned Attends meetings, serves on task forces or teams, completes projects, and performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in project management, database management, process coordination, budgets and contracting, customer service or an occupation related to the work assigned equal to five (5) years This experience must be substantiated within the Work Experience section of the application. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
