Until filled Greenwich Public Schools seeks a Special Education Program Coordinator beginning July 1, 2026. The Special Education Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising programs for students with disabilities. Jonathan S. Budd, Ph.D. Essential Functions Curriculum & Instruction Provides technical assistance to building administrators, general education staff, and special education staff on modifications to increase access to the curriculum for students with disabilities Reviews and recommends supplemental curriculum materials for students with disabilities Evaluates curricular options for non-academic instruction (travel training, vocational training, activities of daily living) Promotes universal access in the development of curriculum and instructional activities Assists building administrators in monitoring the instruction of students with disabilities, in both general education and special education settings Assists in the selection, purchase, and use of assistive technology and augmentative communication devices Provides technical assistance to school-based Student Assistance Teams regarding the interface between special education eligibility and Response to Intervention activities Personnel Assists building administrators in the hiring and assignment of special education and related services staff (certified and non-certified) Participates in building and district interview committees Plans, coordinates, and/or provides professional learning for groups of certified and non-certified staff Functions as contributing and primary evaluator for certified special education and related services staff Supervises itinerant and related service staff as assigned Administration Monitors compliance with local, state, and federal requirements Provides technical assistance to building-based administrators on complex IEP/PPT meetings Manages the function of the evaluation teams, coaches, learning facilitators, and/or other specialized staff Meets with building administrators on a weekly basis to provide technical assistance; supervises off-site programs and program staff Coordinates the design and implementation of the Extended School Year program and coordinates services with the coordinator of the general education summer program Assists in coordinating the summer evaluation process, private school evaluations, independent educational evaluations (IEE), and bilingual and specialized evaluations (e.g., psychiatric and neuropsychological) Communication and Public Relations Communicates with program coordinators and building administrators to coordinate services Participates in regular meetings with the representatives from the Special Education Support committee of the PTA Finance and Management Reviews IEP requests that require district funding Provides input to the Chief Officer of Special Education and Student Supports on the development of the program budgets Maintains an office, including clerical support staff Interviews and makes recommendations to the Chief Officer of Special Education and Student Supports regarding private consultants Coordinates with Town agencies regarding services for students with disabilities (e.g., Parks and Recreation, Libraries) Scheduling & Placement Assists building administrators in scheduling special education staff and contracted services including itinerant staff Matches staff expertise to student needs, and recommends transfers when necessary Participates in planning of PPT meetings for specific complex cases Makes recommendations to teams for potential placements for students with complex disabilities Professional Activities Attends professional learning activities related to best practices and compliance; participates on district committees Plans professional development activities for certified and non-certified special education staff and related services staff Litigation Assists school staff in preparing for mediations and due process hearings Participates in mediations and hearings; reviews FERPA requests and evidence books for duplications and non-disclosable documents (e.g., copyrighted materials) Prepares and/or reviews draft responses to State Department of Education and Office of Civil Rights complaints Supervises implementation of settlement agreements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as how to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to develop and implement projects Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance, and professional growth Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required Qualifications CT Certification in special education or related field, and in Intermediate Administration or Supervision (#092), or eligibility for such, required Master's degree in special education or related field Successful administrative experience preferredNote:
