Description Position Overview The Girls Head Counselor serves as the primary leader, mentor, and support figure for all Girls dorm and day groups within camp. This position ensures the emotional and physical well-being of campers, supervises and coaches dorm/activity staff, maintains high standards of safety and behavior, and fosters a positive, inclusive, and spirited community. The Girls Head Counselor plays a critical leadership role in daily operations, supporting counselors, guiding campers through challenges, and helping create a memorable and meaningful camp experience. Key Responsibilities Camper Support & Supervision Serve as the main point of contact for all girls dorm/day groups regarding camper behavior, social dynamics, well-being, and safety. Build positive relationships with campers, offering guidance, conflict resolution, and support with homesickness or interpersonal challenges. Ensure dorms and groups follow daily schedules, maintain routines, and uphold camp rules and values. Monitor dorm/group climate and intervene when necessary to ensure a respectful, inclusive environment. Serve as Girls Dorm Head Staff Leadership & Development Supervise, mentor, and evaluate counselors assigned to girls divisions. Conduct daily check-ins with staff and provide ongoing coaching and feedback. Support staff in managing challenging camper situations and modeling effective counseling strategies. Assist with staff training before and during the summer, including sessions on behavior management, communication, and program implementation. Program & Operations Collaborate with leadership team to ensure daily schedules, activities, and events run smoothly. Assist in planning and coordinating special programs, evening activities, and division-wide events. Ensure dorms and activity spaces meet safety and cleanliness standards. Participate in and support camp-wide traditions, assemblies, and special theme days. Safety & Risk Management Uphold all safety procedures and protocols, responding promptly to incidents or concerns. Work with the health team on camper health issues, medication reminders, and injury/illness follow-ups. Keep accurate documentation of incidents, behavior notes, and parent communications as required. Parent Communication Provide professional, reassuring, and solution-oriented updates during phone calls or meetings. Requirements Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age (or have completed one year of college). Prior experience as a camp counselor or youth program supervisor. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to mentor young staff and manage complex camper dynamics. Patience, resilience, and enthusiasm for working with children in an outdoor, fast-paced environment. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a leadership team. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Personal Attributes Warm, empathetic, and approachable. Confident and calm under pressure. Skilled at conflict resolution and problem-solving. Highly organized and proactive. A positive role model who embodies camp values.
