You'll serve alongside experienced educators while receiving training and mentorship as part of a welcoming community of AmeriCorps coaches. Programming will be co-ed and focused on creating positive, inclusive experiences for all students, with intentional efforts to engage girls in sport and physical activity. About Coach Across America Coach Across America is a national service organization built on the belief that coaches can be among the most transformative adults in young people's lives. Through one-year AmeriCorps service opportunities, Coach Across America trains and supports coaches serving in schools and community organizations across the country. About Fight For Children Fight For Children is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit working to ensure all young people have access to the benefits of youth sports. The organization supports a coalition of 37 youth sports organizations serving more than 45,000 youth annually across the DC region. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Co-facilitate Early Access to Sports before-school programming for youth with limited prior exposure, focusing on introducing fundamental skills, building confidence, and creating a positive first experience in sports Support morning PE classes alongside the school's PE teacher Assist with planning, setup, and delivery of PE lessons and activities Support classroom management and student engagement during PE Assist with equipment organization, set up, and breakdown Serve as a consistent, positive role model for young people, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment Perform program administrative duties, including collecting, tracking, and entering program data such as attendance records, survey responses, consultant time logs, and other school-specific information related to the Early Access to Sports Program Engage in outreach efforts and assist with school-based activities to expand access to youth sports Participate in required trainings, professional development opportunities, mentorship, and a community of AmeriCorps coaches and Fight For Children or the DCPS school. Support Fight For Children program operations and special community events AmeriCorps members must also complete required service hours, trainings, timesheets, data collection, and volunteer activities throughout the term. Anticipated Schedule Monday-Thursday 7:00-8:30 a.m.: Early Access to Sports before-school program 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: School-day support (PE classes, recess, lunch support, etc.) Friday 7:00-8:30 a.m.: Early Access to Sports before-school program Additional program support and office/project time with Fight For Children - 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Additional hours may be required for special events or community activities. Elementary school in Ward 8, Washington, DC Eligibility Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident Must be at least 18 years old (or 17 with parental/guardian consent) Have or be working toward a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent Interest or basic experience or interest in coaching, youth development, mentoring, physical fitness or education Reliable Transportation Background Check (DCPS, FFC, CAA) Complete Child Abuse & Neglect Training completion Complete all DCPS mandatory trainings Complete Fight For Children & Coach Across America onboarding This position provides valuable hands-on experience and professional development opportunities in coaching, education, and youth development.
