Primary Purpose:

Manages, designs, and executes education/outreach programs designed to educate school groups and the public about marine and coastal science, animals, and conservation. Additionally, to participate in the well care of marine turtles and maintenance of life support systems and participate in research initiatives through the Marine Environmental Education Center at the Carpenter House (MEEC) alongside the direction of the Director of the MEEC Program, and the Dean of the Halmes College of Arts and Sciences.

Yes Essential Job Functions:

1. Manages the education team at the MEEC. Expands school and public programming options at the MEEC with the expanded Education Team. 2. Directs the planning, promotion and execution of MEEC special events such as the art festival, etc. 3. Manages training of new MEEC hires. 4. Assists in grant writing for expanding MEEC Education Programming. 5. Manages funds generated from educational programming fees at MEEC. Purchases new materials, technologies, as needed and as funds are available through the education program. 6. Designs and implements programs of education about sea turtles and other environmental programs for schools and other organizational groups under the auspices of the Carpenter House, Marine Environmental Education Center and NSU Ocean. 7. Works with the general public to educate children and adults about sea turtles and other marine species. 8. Performs outreach/education activities and integrates scientific knowledge and operational expertise to ensure excellence in development and translation of research for school programming and daily education programs. 9. Assists in daily operations of Carpenter House MEEC facility. 10. Assists with management and training of volunteers and interns. 11. Assists with gift shop and point of sale system management. 12. Assists with social media and planning of other events and activities. 13. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements:

1. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties. 2. Ability to walk up and down two flights of stairs, multiple times, daily 3. Ability to work a 9:30a-5:30p shift from Tuesday through Saturday. 4. May be required to work nights or weekends.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

1. Public speaking skills. 2. Sociable, enthusiastic personality. 3. Good organizational skills. 4. Knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; database and data entry skills 5. Ability to utilize or learn to utilize software relevant to position. 6. 1. Two (2) years of science education experience or related experience. 2. Experience working with children and adults. 3. Experience with animal care and husbandry.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience with developing programs in accordance with Next Generation Science Standards as well as Florida State Standards (CPALMS). Is this a safety sensitive position? No Background Screening Required?
