Job Description

Executive Director of Engagement Our Mission Northland Church exists to glorify God as we participate in His mission of redeeming a people from all peoples by engaging neighbors and nations to be fully alive in King Jesus in the power of the Spirit. Primary Description The Executive Director of Engagement provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the church's engagement and assimilation strategy. This role is responsible for creating clear pathways for guests and attendees to move toward deeper connection within the life of the church. The Director of Engagement leads volunteer and staff teams who steward the first impressions experience, manages systems and workflows that support follow-up and retention, and equips ministry leaders with tools to help people take meaningful next steps in community, service, and discipleship. This role serves as a leader of leaders , developing strong volunteer leadership teams while ensuring consistent, hospitable, and effective engagement systems across the church. The role combines hospitality, leadership, and strategy —ensuring that every person who engages with Northland experiences a welcoming environment and has a clear pathway to grow.

Competencies First Impressions and Weekend Engagement Provide leadership and oversight of the church's first impressions experiences to ensure guests and attendees feel welcomed, informed, and connected. Oversee the overall First Impressions strategy and guest experience Lead and manage the Front of House (FOH) leadership team Recruit, train, and develop volunteer leaders who oversee FOH volunteer teams Ensure consistent hospitality standards across all weekend environments Develop systems to evaluate and improve the guest experience Collaborate with ministry departments to ensure clear communication or weekend engagement opportunities Assimilation and Engagement Pathway Develop and maintain a clear and effective pathway that helps individuals move from first-time guest to fully engaged participant in the life of the church. Own and develop the church's end-to-end engagement and assimilation pathway (guest ? connected ? engaged ? member) Ensure every person has a clear and accessible next step (e.g., New to Northland, Believe-Belong-Become, Made for Mission, groups, serving) Partner with ministries across Connect, Cultivate, Care, and Commission to ensure smooth transitions into deeper involvement Continuously evaluate and refine pathways to remove barriers and increase participation Follow-Up Systems and Engagement Workflows Provide strategic oversight for systems and processes that support guest follow-up and ongoing engagement. Develop and maintain back-office workflows for guest follow-up and engagement tracking Collaborate with communications and ministry teams to ensure consistent messaging Utilize data and reporting tools to monitor engagement health and identify opportunities for improvement Ensure engagement systems are scalable and sustainable for ministry growth Equipping and Retention Strategy Equip ministry leaders with tools and systems that help retain and engage people within their ministry environments Develop and distribute retention tools and engagement best practices for ministry leaders Partner with ministry leaders to strengthen connection points for new participants Provide training and coaching for ministry leaders on engagement strategies Support ministries in building environments that foster belonging and long-term participation Data, Metrics & Continuous Improvement Track and evaluate key engagement metrics (guest retention, next steps taken, volunteer engagement, etc.). Use data to identify opportunities and improve systems Provide regular insights and updates to leadership on engagement effectiveness Establish clear goals and measurable outcomes for engagement initiatives Leadership and Team Development Serve as a leader of leaders by developing strong volunteer and staff leadership teams that support engagement initiatives. Recruit, train, and develop volunteer leaders across engagement teams Identify and develop leaders within the team Ensure all volunteers are equipped, scheduled, and supported Foster a healthy team culture focused on hospitality and mission Provide coaching, feedback, and leadership development for team members Budget and Project Management Ensure effective stewardship of resources while executing engagement initiatives and strategic projects Manage and oversee the engagement ministry budget Lead project management for engagement initiatives and ministry improvements Coordinate cross-departmental projects that support connection and assimilation Ensure resources are aligned with engagement strategy and ministry priorities Core Values of Northland's Staff Church Core Value Gospel Centrality Behavioral Core Values Authentic Balanced Collaborative Driven Elevating Fun Generous Humble Organizational values We clarify communication. EXPERIENCE
Experience in church ministry leadership, volunteer management, or organizational engagement strategies. Strong leadership, relational and team development experience. Experience managing systems, processes, and organizational workflows. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Warm, welcoming and people-focused. Effective communicator - both personally, digitally and in front of groups (large and small). Ability to lead both strategically and operationally within a growing ministry environment.
EDUCATIONAL
Bachelor's degree preferred in Ministry, Leadership, Organizational Leadership, Communications, Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.
