CASUAL Description •Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin July 2026 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days.
Duties:
Provide comprehensive academic advising and student support to low-income, first generation, and students with disabilities, including academic, financial aid, career, and personal guidance. Facilitate student intake and assist in the implementation of individualized action plans, monitor progress, and ensure delivery of grant-mandated services. Coordinate and facilitate workshops and activities related to academic success, financial literacy, graduate school preparation, cultural enrichment, and personal development. Assist with the preparation of materials and logistics for program activities. Oversee student internship program, including coordinating scheduling, training, and tracking engagement. Support peer-led student engagement activities aligned with program goals and coordinate logistics, materials, and communications for these activities. Perform administrative support for the SSSP internship program by arranging placements, assisting students with completing and collecting required forms, and evaluating outcomes to align with academic and career goals. Maintain and update physical and electronic student records in systems such as Student Access, STAR Hawaii, and Banner, ensuring accurate documentation of services and adherence to federal and institutional compliance requirements. Assist with administrative tasks, including procurement, vendor communication, inventory management, and student communications. Support recruitment and outreach efforts, represent the program at events, and assist with eligibility screening. Input and compile program data for reports to support grant compliance and continuous improvement. Provide consistent in-person office coverage, collaborating with the Executive Director to ensure adequate staffing and availability for walk-in students. Participates in meetings and professional development, maintain office presence, and provide in-person/virtual services as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field and one (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student services experience (i.e. academic advising, counseling, educational workshops); or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Familiarity with grant funded programs and requirements Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software including Microsoft Office and Google Suites. Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to drive to complete program errands Ability to work days, evenings, weekends as directed.
Desirable Qualifications:
Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university Experience working in a TRIO or similar higher education equity program Experience working with a diverse population to assist in overcoming higher education barriers typically encountered by the target population and/or success overcoming barriers similar to those faced by target population Familiarity with Banner, STAR, Student Access or similar student information database, and degree audit software. Ability to adjust quickly to change, handle varied and challenging assignments.
