The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa ( https://olliuhm.org/) is a vibrant community for adults age 50 and older who share a passion for intellectual exploration, social connection, and personal growth. Through a diverse array of courses, workshops, special events, and social activities, OLLI demonstrates that learning never stops and that intellectual engagement is key to a fulfilling life. Our members come from all walks of life and are united by curiosity, a desire to stay connected, and a commitment to lifelong learning. The University of Hawai'i at Manoa invites applications for a temporary, half-time, 11-month Graduate Assistant position beginning in July 2026. Continuation is contingent upon program needs, satisfactory work performance, academic progress, and availability of funds. Position benefits include tuition waiver and eligibility for health benefits, such as medical, drug, dental, and vision, with employee contribution. The position is ideal for a graduate student who enjoys working with diverse populations, learning new technologies, solving problems, and helping create welcoming educational experiences for older adults. Because OLLI is a small, dynamic program, the successful candidate will enjoy interacting with people, responding to questions, and adapting to changing needs in both virtual and in-person settings.
OLLI-UHM
encourages graduate assistants to engage with the program community and, when appropriate, share their own interests and expertise through presentations, workshops, or other program activities. Duties and Responsibilities Works closely with the OLLI Director and Program Coordinator to support member services, registration, communications, outreach, events, and day-to-day program operations. Helps create a welcoming and positive experience for OLLI members by assisting with course selection, registration, technology navigation, and other program-related inquiries. Assists with the administration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of OLLI's online registration system. Oversees database (Modern Campus/Lumens) management; produces reports; provides service support throughout the registration process; Primary point of contact for all general email communications (olliuhm@hawaii.edu). Assists with newsletters, website updates, social media, and other communications materials. Collaborates with OLLI staff, instructors, volunteers, and members in organizing events, scheduling classes, supporting program operations, and maintaining a welcoming learning environment. Assists with membership recruitment process, including large mailings, email and social media campaigns; fields potential member inquiries via email, telephone, social media and in-person; gathers data on referral sources; explains program benefits and advises public on membership options. at outreach events and informational sessions as needed. May provide classroom and event support, both virtual and in-person. Assists instructors, volunteers, and members with OLLI procedures, Zoom protocols, and use of program technology as needed. Monitors and helps maintain OLLI technology equipment and may assist with the preparation and distribution of class and event materials. Collaborates with the OLLI Program Director, volunteers, instructors, and UHM staff to create a functional, convivial space for learning and community building. Provides logistical support; opens and prepares classrooms, sets up equipment as necessary. Duties may include setting up, breaking down, and moving tables and chairs to accommodate class needs. Works with the OLLI Program Director to collect and analyze feedback surveys on OLLI courses, workshops, and events to support continuous program improvement. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Classified degree-seeking graduate student in a Masters or Doctoral program (minimum 6 credits) in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or above) at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated problem-solving, communication, and adaptability skills. Familiarity with modern communication tools and technology and ability to assist others in using them. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom and ability to manage multiple projects are essential. Desirable Qualifications One year of professional experience in a customer service role (includes retail / food & beverage). Interest in lifelong learning, community engagement, education, aging, nonprofit administration, communications, or related fields.
Familiarity with:
1) graphic design tools such as Canva, or similar programs, 2) social media, and/or 3) database programs such as Modern Campus/Lumens.
