$18.50 per hour The Maui Family YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Beginner Skateboarding Program Specialist to introduce children to the fundamentals of skateboarding in a safe, positive, and encouraging environment. This position is ideal for an experienced skateboarder who enjoys working with youth and can teach beginner-level skills through structured instruction, games, and hands-on practice. Responsibilities Teach basic skateboarding skills, including balance, pushing, turning, stopping, and safe falling techniques Lead age-appropriate lessons for beginner skateboarders Create a welcoming environment for participants of all abilities Inspect the skate area and equipment before each session Enforce helmet, protective gear, and program safety expectations Supervise participants and maintain accurate attendance Communicate professionally with families and YMCA staff Assist with setup, cleanup, and equipment organization Qualifications Strong skateboarding knowledge and ability Experience teaching, coaching, or working with children preferred Patient, encouraging, energetic, and safety-conscious Reliable transportation and consistent availability Able to work outdoors and remain active throughout each session Must successfully complete YMCA hiring requirements, including background checks and required youth-safety training CPR and First Aid certification preferred; training may be available About the Program This is a beginner-focused program designed to help children build confidence while learning foundational skateboarding skills. The emphasis will be on safety, progression, sportsmanship, and having fun—not advanced tricks or competitive skating.
