Job Description

Children's Services Program Coordinator Do you love storytimes, creativity, organized chaos, glitter, STEM projects, books, kids, teens, and making a difference in your community? Then we may have the perfect job for you! The Newton County Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and community-minded person to become our next Children's Services Program Coordinator. This position is open because our current coordinator is taking the next exciting step in his library career after growing his skills and experience here at NCPL. We are proud to have been part of his professional journey, and now we're excited to welcome someone new to continue building amazing experiences for the children and families of Newton County. The Children's Coordinator will present programs at all 3 of our locations, Lake Village, Morocco & Roselawn. Regular hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:45 a.m.-5:15 p.m., with one Saturday shift per month (8:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m.) and occasional evening hours scheduled in advance. The Children's Services Program Coordinator serves all locations of the Newton County Public Library and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and presenting engaging programs for children and teens, ages 0-18, and families. Programs may include storytimes, summer reading activities, school visits, outreach events, after-school activities, teen programming, family programs and other educational or recreational activities designed to encourage literacy, learning, and lifelong library use. The Coordinator develops program ideas through books, professional resources, collaboration with other libraries and organizations, and personal creativity. In addition to programming responsibilities, this position assists patrons with circulation services, reference questions, and basic public computer assistance as time permits. What You'll Do
  • Plan and lead fun, engaging programs for children and teens ages 0-18
  • Present storytimes, summer reading activities, after-school programs, outreach visits, and special events
  • Create welcoming displays and activity areas
  • Build relationships with schools and community partners
  • Help children and families discover a lifelong love of reading and libraries
  • Occasionally assist with circulation, computers, and patron services What We're Looking For

  • The Children's Coordinator must hold, at minimum, Indiana Library Certificate 6 (LC6) or qualify for such certification.
