WHAT YOU LL DO
The interim Camp ChiMer Camp Director is responsible for the planning and daily operations of the camp program, ensuring a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for all participants. This role oversees volunteer and counselor coordination and training as well as the camp activity schedule. In conjunction with the Executive Director, the Camp Director manages expenses, maintains compliance with safety and regulatory standards, communicates with families, and fosters a positive, inclusive environment. Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a passion for youth development and outdoor or recreational programming. Page Break Camp Administration Collaborate with the current Camp Director to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities, including participating in weekly check-ins. Verify receipt of full camper applications including Part 1, Part 2 and medical forms. Communicate with guardians/parents as needed with reminders. I.E. missing application or medical forms, pick-up and drop-off details, and packing lists. Compile and maintain accurate camper rosters using Jotform. Coordinate with key camp volunteers (Julie O Neill) to assign cabin groups (campers to counselors). Track current year graduates of Camp ChiMer (those aged 18 years old during 2026 camp) and maintain records. Create and manage lists for graduate gifts, awards, and recognition items. Volunteer & Counselor Coordination In conjunction with the Executive Director and Program Director, ensure all required information and documentation for counselors and volunteers has been received. Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to screen new counselors. Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator to develop the volunteer schedule. Review and process Transportation and Accommodation Support Requests and work with Program Director to ensure all requests are accommodated, within a reasonable expectation. Create and update training materials for volunteers and counselors. Send reminders and communications to volunteers and counselors
Including:
Camp schedule, volunteer schedule, packing list, reminders about Sexual Abuse Training and Background Checks Pre-Event & Program Logistics Confirm logistics with ALL vendors, including delivery and drop‑off times. Ensure all materials needed for onsite programming that require printing meet the required deadlines for offsite printing through the NKF print shop. Create packing lists and shopping lists for each major event. Develop and update food, snack, and drink orders (all food supplies that will be needed outside of catering), with the Executive Director and camp dietitian. Draft and print Meal Menu to be posted in Kitchen for Food Prep Volunteers. Complete and return setup sheets to Three Trails. Confirm all recreational activities with Three Trails. Provide the Children s Mercy team with access to needed documentation (MAR form) Page Break Communication & Preparation Send reminders and updates to campers, volunteers, and counselors. Prepare and Print in Advance All onsite materials
  • schedules, emergency contact lists, check-in and check-out sheets, waivers for alumni and volunteer groups, and any other needed items.
On-Site Management and Oversight Working in partnership with the NKF Executive Director and Director of Programs Serve as the primary point of contact and overall leader during camp. Oversee daily camp operations to ensure activities run on schedule and align with program goals. Conduct daily check-ins with key teams (medical, counselors, volunteers, kitchen, and recreation staff). Troubleshoot and resolve issues in real time, including staffing gaps, camper concerns, and logistical challenges. Support counselors and volunteers, providing guidance, redirection, and conflict resolution as needed. Ensure appropriate staff-to-camper ratios are maintained at all times. Documentation & Wrap-Up Ensure incident reports and required documentation are completed accurately and promptly. Track attendance and participation as needed. Oversee distribution of awards, recognition items, and camper belongings. Support camp breakdown, packing, and return of materials. Provide a post-camp debrief summary, including successes, challenges, and recommendations.

WORKING CONDITIONS, EQUIPMENT USED AND SPECIAL INFORMATION
Must have unimpeachable integrity and trustworthiness while possessing a high degree of tact, discretion, and professionalism. Verbal and written communication skills will be used daily. Maintain effectiveness under pressure. Competency in use of a telephone, computer, photocopier, and other standard office equipment. Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. Flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed. Available for overnight business travel. Must have a valid driver s license and reliable transportation.
