Job Description

The temporary Berea Kids Eat Program Associate will help implement summer meal service and programming through Grow Appalachia's Berea Kids Eat program; including organizing a mobile meal site; serving meals to youth ages 18 and under; collaborating with community partners and stakeholders; working with and supporting college-aged student staff and/or interns; and supporting Grow Appalachia's Nutrition Programs Coordinator and other College staff to ensure proper meal documentation processes and compliance. This position will also support the program's goals as a multi-resource initiative to reach many needs of Berea youth, including nutrition programming, healthy eating and food-related education, and on-site enrichment programming. Working closely with the Nutrition Programs Coordinator other Berea Kids Eat Program Staff; the Berea Kids Eat Program Associate will help ensure local and high-quality meals are being delivered to Berea Community Youth as part of the Summer Meals Program. Work directly with students and interns in support of Summer Meal Service. Serve Multiple Day and Bulk Summer Meals to youth ages 18 and under on a Mobile Meals Delivery, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and regulations. Complete all required

Meals (formerly the Summer Food Service Program) documentation in coordination with the Nutrition Programs Coordinator and other Compliance Staff accurately and within required timelines. Ensure thorough site set up and clean up. Coordinate outreach efforts for the Berea Kids Eat program by working closely with Berea Kids Eat Programming Intern(s) and Nutrition Programs Coordinator, to engage with community organizations, families, and youth ensuring educational summer programs and events are successful and widely attended. This could include social media advertisements, as well as tracking metrics with participants for grant reporting requirements throughout the summer. The Program Associate will help ensure the Glades Community Garden Education Spaces are upkept-to include possible weeding, mowing, watering of plants, harvesting, and other landscaping and organizational tasks. The Program Associate will work closely with the Nutrition Programs Coordinator and other Grow Appalachia staff to help gather feedback from community and student participants throughout and after the summer to help reflect and prepare for subsequent summers. Education required to ensure success in this position: High school diploma or GED Experience required to ensure success in this position: Experience working with youth under 18 Experience with USDA Child Nutrition Programs like SUN Meals (formerly the Summer Food Service Program) or the CACFP program Experience in youth enrichment programming Project management Experience with Berea City neighborhoods and/or ability to read a GPS Experience with design & social media Special skills, knowledge and abilities: Essential training (may be obtained after hire start date) - First Aid/CPR, USDA SUN Meals Site Supervisor, Food Safety (to include Food Handler's License), Civil Rights Training, Institute of Child Nutrition Trainings as directed, and any other training as directed. Strong attention to detail Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Critical thinking and project planning Feedback & evaluation Ability to use technology, including computers and iPads, as well as Microsoft Software and CANVA. Willingness to work in & around churches and other religious spaces. License, certification, or registration necessary: Valid Driver's License Be 26 or older, or complete the College's Defensive Driving Course Required background check and Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) Check Physical requirements: Ability to work outdoors in a wide range of environmental conditions Ability to use garden tools (powered and hand tools) Ability to lift heavy items, including filled coolers and portable washing stations Environmental conditions: Occasional shared office space Outdoors in all seasons and weather types Van and bus meal routes Working with hens and ducks at the Glades meal service site Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment: Vans Cars Mowers Weedeaters
