Job Description

Digital Literacy Specialist Commonwealth Land Trust (CLT) is a nonprofit organization that provides permanent supportive housing and social services to individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness and have disabilities. This includes disabilities, trauma, and a lack of lived experience or cultural competency that impedes their access to technology. CLT recently received three grants to assist this population. We are seeking a Digital Literacy Specialist with the combined skill set necessary to work with and train our client population on digital skills as well as other deliverables under these three technology grants. Note that this is a temporary full-time position with grant funding anticipated to expire at the end of calendar year 2026.
Compensation:
$60,000-$70,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Full-time employees receive health, dental, and life insurance benefits; optional 401k; and very generous paid time off.
Location:
Scattered sites around Boston, including Beacon Hill, Dorchester, Lower Roxbury, Roxbury, and the South End, and one site in Lawrence. Preferred Experience and Skills o Direct service with low-income populations o Knowledge of barriers to accessing public benefits o Training or public presentation experience o Bilingual in Spanish o Program management experience, including familiarity with budget oversight o Lived experience of homelessness, substance use disorder, or system involvement Required Experience and Skills o Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office Suite o Ability to troubleshoot Windows-based hardware and software o Ability to monitor and enforce security measures on Windows-based hardware o Professional and friendly demeanor o Attention to detail Duties/Responsibilities.
This position will:
o Directly serve people who are formerly homeless and have experienced trauma. They may also have mental and/or physical disabilities or be in active substance use. o Provide digital literacy trainings to groups of these individuals, including promotion, drafting training materials, leading trainings, and conducting follow-up. o Implement and monitor a "train the trainer" model for up to 6 residents who will receive digital skills training from this position and be compensated with stipends for training other residents on digital literacy. o Monitor the deployment of up to 100 laptops and ancillary equipment to residents using a library model at each of CLT's Single Room Occupancy (SRO) buildings as well as a central location at CLT's office and family housing. Ensure laptops are used properly, returned in a timely manner, and continue to function efficiently throughout the grant period. o Coordinate with two Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who have already been contracted to install infrastructure upgrades at 3 CLT buildings. This includes coordination with the ISPs for access to the buildings and completion of necessary paperwork, as appropriate. o Establish office/walk-in hours rotating at different CLT buildings for residents to stop in and receive education on digital literacy, troubleshoot technology problems, or connect with additional services. o Manage group hardware including charging carts and printers to ensure they are used and working properly. o Collect, maintain, and ensure the accuracy and completeness of program data (e.g., training attendance, laptop/equipment deployment and returns, walk-in hour logs, participant tracking) using CLT's designated systems, and support program evaluation activities as needed. o Assist with other grant deliverables as needed and appropriate. o Complete all documentation of work in a timely manner and in compliance with funder expectations, including preparation for program reporting and evaluation, and tracking of program expenses. o This position requires a 40-hour work week, with a flexible or hybrid schedule possible. However, the majority of hours must be spent on-site.
Pay:
