Cybersecurity Apprentice
Kinetic Potential is a mission driven for-profit organization, based in the Washington, DC area. The firm is preparing for significant growth and seeking IT apprentices to work on important IT projects.
Background & Program DescriptionKP believes that success in a cybersecurity role comes from being able to apply the technical training and learned skills to real-life projects and programs. Training alone is insufficient to truly prepare participants for employment, especially in cybersecurity. KP's Cybersecurity Career Path is aligned with the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Framework and prepares individuals for careers as Cybersecurity Consultants. Our program is intended to not only prepare the participants fora career as consultants, but to evaluate their potential for a full-time role as an employee with KP or one of our KP Network partners. To adequately prepare participants to take on the role and responsibilities of a cybersecurity consultant, we offer a three-part program:
Training Certification - Asynchronous or Live Cybersecurity Training and CompTia exam preparation (A+, Network+, Security+)Experiential Learning - Application of acquired knowledge to a mini-project within KP or with simulation via Cyber Range, Cyber Patriot, Teach Cyber, and GenCyber.
Career Management - Review of career opportunities within KP or a KP Network PartnerThe Cybersecurity Apprentice is a full-time employee role that is receiving on the job training along with technical instruction to adequately prepare KP's staff to deliver high quality information assurance services to our large network of K12 schools, government agencies and private institutions. The anticipate duration of the apprenticeship period is approximately 18-24 months. Responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating classroom discussions, assisting students individually and in groups collaborative learning environment, assessing student performance, and preparing students to be successful leaders in the profession. This role assists in the updating of instruction, working with the registered apprenticeship program, and improvement of teaching methodologies that work best in relating the practices that prepare students for a career in Cybersecurity. KP consultants facilitate distance learning courses to cohorts of veterans, students in grades K-12 and individuals with disabilities.
Depending on program demand, multiple cohorts may be active at any given time. They are expected to contribute to the ever-growing Kinetic Potential Learning Curriculum. The schedules will be established based upon project assignments and technical instruction course work with some flexibility for office hours and meeting times. Onboard veterans and new student cohorts throughout the Training Certification program Teaches cybersecurity / IT courses within a cohort model and provide real-world guidance Deliver cyber security camps and administer cyber simulation Develops and implements forward-thinking plans for boot camp program development Support the students during exam preparation by offering regular office hours Assists administration in driving updates around boot camp curriculum design & development. Respond to students' questions via email Q&A Develops and maintains relationships with students to support mentoring opportunities, classroom guest speaker visits, internship programs, project collaborations, and the future employment of program graduates Show initiative by identifying innovative methods to help unemployed adults, particularly veterans and those with disabilities, successfully complete the training and experiential learning components of the program. Help the students understand that their performance in this training program will be evaluated as part of the decision-making process for employment with KP and/or KP Network Partners. Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations Able to provide a positive example to students by supporting KP Mission.

Requirements:
Familiarity and interest in technology Research and implement the latest security standards, systems, and best practices. Excellent communication, organization, time-management, and leadership skills Strong interpersonal skills for mentoring students and veteran candidates Experience teaching is strongly preferred Demonstrated interest in helping unemployed adults develop new skills and securemeaningful employment Multi-lingual skills (particularly Spanish) and the ability to translate for program materials is a plusSimilar remote jobs
